Front axle question

Guys, my '72 Blazer has a broken passenger side axle shaft. What I need to know is whats interchangeable with it, do pickups have the same length shaft? What about newer year trucks?

Also, I know the 10 Bolt and Dana 44 are somewhat similar, will a shaft from that work or does it have to be from a 44? I'm dying to get this truck going again.

Re: Front axle question

the axles are interchangeable on open knuckle 44's between pickups and blazers. i believe that the only difference in 10 bolt axles is that the outer stub is a different length but i'm not sure on that one

On the 44's are they the same up until they changed to the 10 bolts in the mid 80's?

Like CPNEJR said, all of the open nuckle chevy D44 should work, but I believe they switched to the 10 bolt in 76 or so, not 80's.

Re: Front axle question

The outers are the same. It is the inner that is different on a 10 bolt. The 72 and earlyier trucks use a smaller u-joint than the later. Get yourself a 73-79 Dana 44 front.
