Interested in a Cady Swap
I know that this has been talked about in the 67-72 forums, however I am needing to put a new motor in my 1987 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. I am thinking about swaping in a 500 cube Cadillac motor. I purchased the motor and trans for $300.00. The motor is an early 70's model with 365 horses and over 500 ft/lb's of torque. The motor runs great and only has about 70,000 miles on it. I know that this is not very hard to do in a 67-72 and I think that you use the 73-87 motor mount towers. I am going to keep my factor turbo 400 that is already in the Sub. I am going to have to buy an adapter to bolt the Cady motor to the Chevy trans. If there is any one out there who can give me any info on this subject I would be greatly appreciative!!!
Thanks A.C. Mullis |

Re: Interested in a Cady Swap
I had a webpage from a guy who did this swap, butI lost it. I've been researching this too as I'm looking for a caddy for my truck too. for a squarebody, you have to swap the engine frame mounts left to right and trim some off so they don't interfere with the steering. You'll have to drill some holes for the studs in the caddy motor mounts so they can bolt to the frame mounts. once that's done it will just drop in, with a tranny adapter. you will have to run your fuel lines to the left side of the truck. you will have to clearance for the drivers side valve cover near the firewall on that brace the brake booster or master cylinder bolts to. that's about it as i understand it.
Here's a thread with a bunch of caddy links.... one of them is called chevrollac, check it out it's about a 77 c-10 with a caddy 500. http://www.cadillacpower.com/forum/i...ic,6981.0.html Here's some links to caddy forums where I found my info. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/500-472-425-368/ http://forums.500cid.com/forumdisplay.php?f=10 A thread with some info on trans adapters: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/archi.../t-406649.html Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 03-08-2009 at 11:51 PM. |
