traction and load handling problems
hi guys,i'm new here and i've got some questions for you.first off my truck is a 67 lwb i have 3 in drop springs in the back and i replaced the trailing arm and trac bar bushings w/poly ones i'm running kyb monomax shocks and no sway bar.with decent tires i've always kind of had traction problems and i don't have much horsepower and recently when it has a little bit of a load in the bed it sags and acts squirrely,but the springs are only about 3 yrs old.so before i try to drill through the frame to run air lines for the old style air bags that go inside the coil spring does anybody have a better suggestion ? also i need new lower shock mounts suggestions on where i should buy them ?and finally has anbody else had trouble with the 10% ethaanol mixed with our gasoline eating up the plastic blazer gas tanks ? if so does anybody know where you can buy the good old fashioned galvenized metal ones cheep ? sorry for being long winded but trust me i've got many more questions these are the most pressing,Ron

Traction issues is just a common "truck" thing..... Not enough weight in the rear end for traction. Do you have a posi rear end, limited slip or one tire fire?
As for the squirrel "e" part. It sounds like you have to much weight in the rear causing you to be light in the front end... To much weight in the rear will make the truck dart all over the road.... |

ok let me ask a different way,my truck has the coil spring suspension,does any body know what i can do to make the load handling ability better and not sag so much and maybe haul a trailer besides drilling the holes in the frame to run those old style airbags inside the coil ? i can't seem to find anybody that makes those kits for our trucks any more so thats why i have to drill the holes to run the air lines.

I was at the wrecking yard yesterday and saw a 3/4 ton with coils and it had behind the rear end a set of over load half leafs which interacted with trailing arm extensions it seemed like it would be very effective in increasing stability since it was mounted outboard of the frame rails. I couldn't tell if it was stock or aftermarket.

Don't even need a compressor or anything, you could just fill it up and run a shrader valve or something and just keep them full and you should be fine. But that would replace the coil. Someone on the forum I remember seeing had the bag inside of the coil, he was asking questions in the suspension section a while ago, I'll have to look around to find his setup. |

I have the complete Early Classic rear airbag system, lowers the truck and replaces the coils woth large firestone airbags. Also includes new shock mounts and a super track bar. I havent had any traction or weight issues, but i do have the limited slip rear end. I can get you pics or just check it out at Early Classic.
