What is this?
When searching for my oil leak I found a sensor or something on my engine.
It is located on the driver side and screws into the block. Its right in front of the oil filter. It has about 3-5 wires coming off of it and heading up towards the distr. I didnt follow them all the way, but they head that direction. They may be going into my wire harness. Anyone know what this may be?

I replaced my original distr. with a Proform HEI. The Proform doesn't hook to the computer like the original.
Is that the normal location for a knock sensor? Because I thought I already removed or disconnected my knock sensor on the passenger side of the block. Ohh well I guess I'll just track down the wires and see where they go. What ever it is will most likely be removed.

On my 85, and I'm sure on the rest of the LE9 engines, the knock sensor is on the passenger side front of the block. On some engines they had oil pressure senders in front of the oil filter, but it sure wouldn't have 3-5 wires going to it. I'm not sure when they quit putting the oil pressure sender in front of the oil filter. Also, the knock sensor don't have 3-5 wires either.

That is right above the oil filter. It is an oil pressure switch that stops voltage from going to your electric choke. It is why the choke light comes on when your engine dies. If you don't have oil pressure but continue to drive your truck, it will keep it from running well (choke will take forever to come off) and maybe make you look down at your gages to see that you have no oil pressure.
I found this out the hard way when I replaced an engine and didn't put that switch in. I couldn't figure out why my choke worked before, but not after the swap. I ended up jumpering the connector, it's worked that way for four years!

My unlce had that same type of switch on his boat. Turns out this switch would cut the motor off when there was no oil pressure. Th 4.3 would never start took me 3 hours to track that thing down
