C3 Vette (68-82) Rear Suspension into Task Force
I have found information on kits to install C4 series vette IRS units into Task Force trucks but am looking for information on installing an IRS from a C3 series. So far I am not finding much.
Has anyone used this unit on their 55-59? Is there something regarding this IRS that limits its use for this application? The reason I am asking is I have access to a 78 vette IRS at a good price and think it would be good under the 58 currently waiting for garage space. |

The 1963-79 & 80-82 Corvette rear ends are 57.5" hub width. The deepest backspaced wheel (when talking 15") is 4". You would have to tub the bedsides for tire clearance.

Typical bed side to side on these is 50.5" wide. I personally think it's too narrow.

Re: C3 Vette (68-82) Rear Suspension into Task Force
I have decided to pass on this C3 unit as it just does not work well with the Task Force chassis. It also does not seem to fit well with the AD series chassis either but I am sure if someone wanted to use it they could find a way.
The C4 series suspension is a better option for my needs. Now I just have to have one fall into my lap like the C3 did. |

Depending on your definition of a good deal, Dino's in Picayune, MS sometimes has reasonable deals depending on supply/demand (they're a Vette only junkyard / parts supplier). There's also a listing in Hemmings Motor News right now for a front and rear from a 84-87 C4 ($750 each). Little pricey for the front imho but not bad for the rear.

84's should go for alot less I know on the TRI cars you were limited to on brake and wheel options; There was a time when you almost had to give away that 84

Here are some pic's from a show in GA in '98. The Vette IRS was installed by Mike Chesser, he did the Camaro clip on my 57. I think he sells a kit for the Vette install.

Thank you for the pics. I have sent them an email requesting some additional information on this installation. With the 57.5" hub to hub width what tire size/rim backspacing did you wind up using to keep the rubber off the bed sides?
