I am going to make my wood boards for my bed and was wondering if someone could give me a measument of the board widths on a 50 GMC/Chevy. I also was looking for some strip to got between the boards but dont want to pay the 70-100 dollars they are charging online. What has others used for the strips or how did you make your own. Or were are some cheap one to buy

I'm not 100% percent sure on this, but I think the bed strips were the same up until the '70's model stepside trucks, I'm sure you could do a little junkyard-ing and come up with some that would work for cheap. You may have to cut or paint them but I still think it's worth it. That's actually how I got tailgate chains for my '57, I saw a set on a '75 stepside in a junkyard that looked practically brand new, I think I paid less than 5 bucks for 'em and they fit perfectly!

Also check out this discussion on the Stovebolt, it's got a ton of info on doing that bed yourself, I know somewhere on that site is exact dimensions for cutting your own too...

Just an idea when I did my 49 awhile back I used 3/4 marine plywood and routed the slots for the bed strips,then stained and sprayed poly clear over it. Less work and less money and it still looked great 8yrs later then I sold the truck
