how many quarts with filter..1977 GMC BB crew cab
Hi folks. Does anyone know (For Sure)how many quarts of oil with a filter a 1977 GMC Crew Cab Big Block takes. I've been told 5, 6 and 7. The dipstick tube has been messed with so I want to put the correct amount in and then check the d/s. Parts counter guys told me 5 and 6. Dealership service guys told me 6..maybe seven. I've seen 7 in print in a Chilton manual which isn't the bible.
Somebody must Know about a 1977 specifically . Thanks. for the input. brad Moore.

Re: how many quarts with filter..1977 GMC BB crew cab
Brad: My cousin has a '77 BB Big 10 and I have a '78 BB Big 10. Both engines take a total of six quarts - five in the pan and one for the filter. Hope this helps.

Oil cooler? Big or short filter? Buy 2 gallon jugs or a case, you'll have some left for the next change or topping off. Usually it's 5 in the pan and a short filter, 5 1/2 with a long filter, and 7 with a cooler and a big filter. Your capacity may vary.
