Big back window conversion!
Can someone with experience in this type of conversion please tell me the right way to convert my small back glass to a big back glass. As suggested I cut as much sheet metal as I could from the big back glass doner truck. One subscriber said the most important part is the inner skin that surrounds the glass. I preserved this inner skin from the spot welded seam in the roof to the bumped out metal above the cab mounted gas tank. The outer pre stamped skin on my little window can be cut to match the big window pattern...correct? Is there a step by step guide with photos on this site for this procedure? Thanks, Aboz.

Hi,
That is a pain but it can be done. If you go to Classic Trucks on the net, do a search for the conversion, they did a write up and it is in their archives. Once you find it you can print it out and try to follow it. It will include pictures for what it worth. Jake

you are pretty mich onto it.
if you cut out your sbw inner panel, and weld in the new bbw inner panel, it will fit right up to the sheetmetal that surrounds the old sbw. I would drill a hole about every inch to inch and a half on your inner bbw pinch weld. then plug/spot weld it to the sbw sheetmetal on your cab. when all this is done, just cut out the window opening from the inside using your new bbw edge as a guide. grind all the spots smooth so that the rubber will fit over it. |

I have done several of these and I prefer to cut the back of the cab to the bbw opening then fit the inner liner. It is just a mater of drilling the spot welds and removing the liner then fitting the bbw liner. It is really very simple.

I gues tht makes sense, cut it a little big , and then trim it down when you are done, would be easier to clamp it with the vise grips that way.
