Traditional Hot Rods?
Seems everyone on here is switchin out frames and bagging their suspensions, etc. Is anyone going the traditional route like myself? On my
'53 I'm running a 261 with fenton headers, offy 2x1 intake, dual smithy's, 3-on-tree, chrome goodies etc. Stock suspension with speedway 3" lowering springs front and rear, '57 chevy rear end, speedway front disc kit, steelies 15x6 front and 15x10 rear with baby moons & trim rings, and custom-built stakebed. Would love to see some pics of the more traditional trucks out there......if any. Maybe it's just me...... |

My 48 is going the "traditonal" look this go around.
I am going to apply the 30 foot rule though. At 30 feet away I want it to appear that it could be conceivable that it was a early/mid 50's custom built shop truck that might have belonged to a custom shop owner. Most of the body mods will fit the era, wheels and tires will be proper. I need to see if the guy I sold my 51 Merc to will sell me back the 57 Cad hubcaps. Engine will be the 292 that is sitting in the garage on the engine stand with a stock 48 gray paint color and cast aluminum and chrome goodies on it to appear at first glance as a dressed up earlier engine. No fake stuff but I just want those who don't quite know what they are looking at to go "Wow, look a 235 with finned aluminum Offy valve cover". It will pack a Mustang II front suspension, 10 bolt rear with disk brakes all around and a 4 or 5 speed. The interior will have some special tricks but will be done up pretty close to what a period correct custom interior should look like. One exception will be super comfortable bucket seats, and that is subject to change. Paint will be very shiny. I've run tinted primer for over 20 years and primer for most of the past 35 years and I'm dead tired of it so it is time for real color and shine this time around. This is the last full rebuild for this truck for me and I don't want to get caught up in the "oh that is so last year" on wheels, color or interior two years down the road. |

Welcome. Go take a look at H.A.M.B. (just google it). Take some time to look through the message boards to get a handle on the vibe there so you don't get flamed out. Good bunch of guys with lots of knowledge but VERY traditional, sounds like what you are looking for. Stovebolt is a good source too, they are oriented more towards keeping them stock or period rods too.

tried traditional for 20 years i need the extra power! not to mention i no longer have popeye arms to turn that beast. more power to you... I would love to see a hotrod 6 cyl maybe you could install a lung i don't think i've seen a 6 with a blower!

I like them all. My 47 is full custom, chopped 2 inches, lift off Carson style convertable top, extended 14 inches, 3 inch wider rear fenders...
My 53 looks all stock on the outside, except wheels and tires and hight, but modern in and under. My 58 will be original engine and suspension, with 50's and 60's upgrades. |
