Replacing Cab Supports

when replacing cab supports, do you guys prefer replacing with completely new or with caps? also can this be done while cab is still on chassis, without being removed or does cab need to be removed?

let me here your suggestions.

Re: Replacing Cab Supports

just did mine and I replaced the hole thing it wasn't bad just loosen the bottom of the fenders and start by spraying the bolts that go into the rockers the sooner the better that was the hardest part..then loosen the rest of the cab support bolts I placed a jack in the middle of the truck with a block of wood to lift the cab in the rear and placed wood blocks on the frame to the floor then did eack front the same way..this lifted up the cab about an inch and a half I lleft the bolt in them until I got to the one O was working on ...did my work dropped the new bolt in and the cab mount and moved on to the next one, when I was done I lowered the cab back down the same way and put the cab mount bolts on........plan on about 3 to 4 hours for each one

my truck is a 70

good luck

Re: Replacing Cab Supports

Ive done 2 sets. Both with the cab off. Although if you have access to the rear of the cab, I dont see why you couldnt do them on. Both times I used LMC truck corners and was unhappy. Didnt fit very well. Good luck on yours.

Re: Replacing Cab Supports

Just doing mine they are kind of a pain in the a@@ a plasma would come in handy, as i am using the OE type cab supports.
I have my cab off on a set of wheels.
I am also doing floor patches on the front so I have access to the top of the supports also, removing rusty old spot welds takes a lot of time.Just don't be in a hurry!
I can snap you some pictures if you like

Re: Replacing Cab Supports

yea I don't want to discourage you but the rears suck to do..... the fronts are no biggie..the problem is the rear of the rear mount because your between the cab corner and whats left of the old mount I think I would remove as much of old mount box first then go after the spot welds and the flange's that are welded to the floor it would go much easier..in my case there wasn't much left of the mount box...also there are 2 tabs on the rear mounts that are part of the the front to back floor support if your welds and box are still good I would bend the bottom one down and the inner one in OR cut them off and weld a tab back in to reconect them if you look at it I hope it will make more sence

good luck and remeber I'm talking about my 70 not sure how much is the same on your truck
