62 chevy Service truck.. Blow thru, turbocharged
This is my 62 chevy. It was my grandpa's old service truck he parked it in 1980 and i drug it out about a month ago. Not very good pictures here it was dark and i was in a hurry. I don't know the color it says "Special" where the color code is.
I took the hood off so i could pull the motor, it is in great shape. Last edited by amnima; 02-08-2011 at 11:14 PM. |

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
I do not know what I am going to do. The engine is bad (265 i think) so i have a sbc 350 i am going to put in it. It already had a 3 speed tranny, my father said it was out of a mid 60's corvette. They changed it along time ago.
The service bed is in great shape so i know i am going to keep it on there. I am not going to paint it, just get it running good and drive it. |

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
What is the best way to put motor mounts on? where i am swaping from the inline 6 to a 350?
Also what bellhousing would i need to connect the 350 to my GM 3 speed? The transmission mounts were bolted to the old bellhousing anyone care to let me know how you redid you tranny mounts? Anything else i am going to have trouble with? First time working on one of these old trucks. Thanks for any help --Jimmy-- |

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
Yea it is a 235... i was not sure earlier. I am not sure if i want to stay with a 3 speed. I have never driven one... If not I may put a 350 turbo automatic in it.

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
Rebuild the 6.That would be a cool truck to leave as your grand dad had it...justa thought. It would be cool with an old 283,though.
That "Special Paint" could be anything specified by a company. But,that sure looks like the light grey special paint on a`69 Stepside I bought.GM most ikely kept some standard codes in certain colors that were commonly requested.I think it`s great you`re keeping it a service body.I`m kinda partial to those having built several for my business over the years. It`s a real man`s truck and guys always take a shine to`em. Here`s the color on that`69:

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
The 235 that was in it was bad when he parked it. I guess i could rebuild it, i just like the sound of a little v8.
The service bed is in good shape, plus still full of tools. I think it looks good with it on there, haven't seen to many other with service beds. Thanks for the comments. Quote:

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
That depends on what your plans are for driving. If your going to be in a city and daily drive it, definitely go with the automatic. I love my 3 speed, but I also hardly ever take it into traffic. I'm not sure exactly what year they started putting synchros in first gear, but if you have an early one like mine (1960) you'll have to be at a complete stop before you'll get into 1st.

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
Keep the six! I love my 250. So much less common that a V-8 and with the right head/cam/carb combo you can blow the doors off a' 350.

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
Here's a thread that will help with the motor mount questions if you decide to go with the 350/350 combination:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=369663 One of the disappointments of the 60-62 chassis is it is very expensive for the original parts, compared to the later 63-up chassis which used a more conventional design. If you are not interested in upgrading to disc brakes, your best bet is just spend the money and replace the stock parts, since they will last nearly forever. |

Re: 62 chevy 10 Service truck Fixer-up
Thanks for the reply's guys. I have already replaced the brakes, i went on and updated them. I also have the engine mounts and motor already in the truck. I guess I need to update my build a little more.
Just looking for a cheaper way on the inner tie rods and the rear springs. |

I'm not aware of any made for the '55-'62 truck 10 bolts.
