Re: is it really worth that?
Nice Truck! $27k seems like a lot, but that's probably half of what he has into it. I just don't like those Cragar S/S wheels- too old man looking. Live in the now, Dude!

A 5.3l is not an LS1, an Ls1 is a 347ci motor, not a 325ci motor

Re: is it really worth that?
IMHO, no.
Maybe someone will plunk down the dead presidents for it but in this slow economy the seller needs to reconsider the price. Just my $.02 |

Re: is it really worth that?
Knowing what I know from building several frame off vehicles I know it is worth at least 23k-25k keep in mind that alot of us dont use junk yard parts and have replaced everything brand new... and it does make a difference in the asking price. There is a difference between fixing and replacing.I dont know about this truck in particular pictures are deceiving in many cases but if it is as nice as it looks I believe is worth it all day long. I have seen some ridiculous prices on some buckets lately that it makes this one seem very fair....

Re: is it really worth that?
If Big Al or someone else steps up and pays 27 large then you will have your answer, but in this economy I seriously doubt that it sells that high....Thats what they were bringing at Barret Jackson this year. If it as nice as those he may find a buyer, but my money is that it wont meet his reserve.
It is only worth what a ready, willing and able buyer will pay. Not many able or ready buyers right now = low truck prices. |

Re: is it really worth that?
Had been looking at the exact same truck for a couple days. On one hand I think it's a helluva nice truck but then on the other that Buy It Now price and bit about "27K NADA Quote" kinda lead me to believe it will never see my driveway . Unless you're a manufacturer (GM, Honda, Aston Martin...hahaha) I'm not sure you're readily going to get more than what you put into it. That's one of the risks of building vs. buying and most realize that. That being said, I'll step up and say I'd love to own it but my offer might be insulting. For the guys that can't weld, paint, stitch, fabricate, or build engines & transmissions it sucks big time. If you're the impatient type, go ahead and double how much it sucks. I have deep pockets by NO means but it would be nice as hell for someone to get me a lot closer to where I need to be...even if part of that was helping/showing me how to do it. And as Done as this truck is, I'd still have more touches I'd want to put on it...starting with the wheels. They aren't horrible, they just don't bring out the unique color of the truck IMO.

Re: is it really worth that?
Keep in mind that it's a buy it now price, not what it will actually sell for -

Re: is it really worth that?
[QUOTE=Wildstreak;3379351] He says that nada guide list it at that price, whats a nada guide lolQUOTE]
NADA (National Automotive Dealers Association) puts out a guide (quarterly) that is for use by dealers and lenders to help establish a price based on sales of record. There's also Kelley Blue Book and another publication called a Black Book. Most dealers I have known used the Black Book when they were buying or trading for something, and then used the NADA book when pricing it to sell. You can access NADA on-line and (as an individual) key in some data and it will generate a price range (low, medium, high) based on condition, color, options, geographic location, etc., to help you if you are wanting to sell your vehicle, or are looking to buy one. There's no obligations when you visit the site. My credit union used to give me their past issues, just because I would ask. Kinda need to have. As an aside, I once picked up some old ('51-52) copies that someone had discarded at a swap meet. I like them for historical purposes. Showed pix and a lot of data about the vehicles from back in the day. During the Korean War, the OPA controlled the prices of new and used vehicles, and this was reflected in the pricing that was published. My dad bought a '50 Plymouth in January '53, and I'm sure that the OPA pricing was followed.

Re: is it really worth that?
He is way too proud of that truck, maybe in the big city with big money but I'd say in 90% of America now no way with the slow economy especially, these people have been watching too many episodes of wrecks to riches!

Re: is it really worth that?
thanks ChevLoRay I had never heard of the nada guide before, just the blue book.
Imho I could never justify spending that much on that particular vehicle, I will give his paint man credit tho, really nice paint job(from what the pictures can tell :P)

Re: is it really worth that?
Nice truck, but way overbuilt. If you're going to build a show quality truck you should realize whether you are the type to drive it or not "FIRST".If you're not then you will basically be showing it and should not expect it to be a DD.If you are building a DD then build it to drive every day and don't build so nice you are afraid to drive it.If you go out and buy a new truck it will be as nice as that one and will wear if you drive it.

Re: is it really worth that?
Did anyone else once in his description he says its a GMC? lol No biggie but just one of the mistakes I see here. Also I honestly do not see how he came up with NADA of $27,000 for a 1968 pickup truck. It would have to be 100% orginal with documented mileage I would think.

Re: is it really worth that?
http://classiccars.com/Priceguide.aspx
NADA Check Applicable Options and Equipment: 4 Wheel Drive 6 Cylinder Engine EL Camino Super Sport 396 EL Camino Super Sport 454 Factory Air Conditioning My LWB 1970 C10 w/AC is valued at $28770 according to NADA price guides. The SWB is valued the same. Using the lack of NADA options criteria...since my truck has a factory 402BB, 400 auto, CST package, Tilt, Tach Dash, Rear Slider, AM-FM Radio, GM 8 Track, AC, etc... My truck should be worth about $40,000. (My truck is coming off an 18 month resto soon I hope) I don't think my truck is worth $40,000. Normally SWB trucks will fetch more money than LWB trucks. The above options listed are the only ones that can be checked. I think for our trucks NADA falls way short of placing an accurate value on our trucks. Is the listed truck worth $25,000? Maybe…somebody would be willing to pay that amount but not me. That is a nice looking truck and I am sure they have some good money into its resto but with the weak economy…who knows. I’m fixing my truck up verses purchasing a new one so I am not concerned about recouping the money invested into my truck. JMHO
