bagged trucks and hanger bearings
ok guys need some help ... i am havin some problems with a bad drive line vibration...iam pretty sure it is cause the angle it is at...it is alot better with the truck raised up but still there at low speeds....i have put a slip yoke on the rear driveshaft to releave the hanger bearing, i was just wonder if anybody thinks like and heavy duty pillar block would work...somthing with out the cushion mount like stock,the cushion seems to let it vibrate to bad
tryin not to cut out the cab for a one piece shft...thanks for any info... |

yeah i do alot of four wheel drive shafts...they are in faze..iam think its at such a great angle that the cushion in the center support bearing is letting it vibrate...

I don' know how much drop you have but with a 2.5" c notch I have driven mine that way to over 100 mph with no repercustions....I would get under it and see if you can move anything something is out of wack

hey tucnnuts, mine is the same way as yours. its got a new slip joint shaft on the rear and the front one has been redone, and i get the vibrations as well. mine is lowered 9"s in the rear, and like said mine has a vibration as well. i think that the vibration that we are having is because of the pinion angle, it ends up being pointed down like the tail shaft of the transmission the lower you go, and it should be pointing up about the same degree as the tailshaft of transmission is pointing down.

I think he has a 2 piece shaft??? check the bolt where the carrier is??? the one behind the u joint???

I've heard to flip the carrier bearing when you're going around/over 6" of drop to eliminate the poor angle...

well i built the frame to let the crossmember come up enough to lay the frame...so i have got the 5.3l motor down far as i can get it with already 3.5 notched into the cross member..so the trans sits up high in the frame ...so the angle frome the trans to the hanger bearing is downward and then up to the rear end...iam thinking its like when ya use a wiggler socket..the greater the differance and the angles its harder to control where as on a stock truck they are alot more inline, mines at a bad angle all the way down...so i was goin to fab a hanger bearing up that was alot stronger than the 18 gauge one from the parts store, but then i worry if even if the hanger bearing want break(again..killed two so far) are the ujoints not going to take it...i just dont want to cut the cab out for the single shaft..i have already built a speaker box under the seat and wanted to make the back window roll down so i need all the space behind and under the seat....

i would go to the drive shaft guys and get there advice. They know the max angles and all that. They also have the knuckle u-joint set up (ford design) that works way better than a single U-joint in this kind of aplication.
