Windsheild washer tank
Does anyone have a photo of the location of where the washer fluid container sits in a 66. Mine is missing and would like to install one.
Thanks.

Re: Windsheild washer tank
Mine originally had a crack in it. I had a friend who was rebuilding a 68 Camaro and the one from it fit perfectly.

Re: Windsheild washer tank
They are the same in car or truck. The other factory optioned location is beside your master cylinder to the drivers side. See the two bolts beside the master. These will accommodate the mounting bracket only if you do not have the power brake option.

Re: Windsheild washer tank
You can get both the bracket and resevior from most of the truck parts suppliers......LMC, Classic Parts, as well as some of the board vendors such as GMC Pauls, Mikes Bump and Grind.

Re: Windsheild washer tank
it is my understanding that those tanks aren't factory correct for the '60-'66's....
not that it matters to everyone....just what I have heard

Re: Windsheild washer tank
I have the 1960 GMC/Chevy asses. manual and the instruc. book The correct type for the "60-61 model years was a bag see pic. Finding a floor mounted pump is super hard, anybody got one, I'll buy it.
I'll check my assec. installation guide for any later model info.

Re: Windsheild washer tank
Gotta be careful if your going original, Chevrolet and GMC did not allways share the same parts and accessories. And then at times they did but GMC had different part numbers than Chevrolet even though it was the same part. My 2 cents Canadian worth about a penny American.

some of the vendors carry a tank that is supposedly correct, but I have it on good authority that they all aren't actually "correct"

Re: Windsheild washer tank
I heard from Tony (I believe) that they are just different.....maybe a universal type dealy-o from another year or something...
I'm pretty sure they would function correctly....just might not be right from a purist resto stand-point

Re: Windsheild washer tank
The aftermarket unit does not have the stand-off portion of the back of the bracket, therefore is does not extend out from the radiator support, in order to clear the voltage regulator & horn relay. It is virtually the same bracket, minus the stand-off, that is spot-welded to the back of the bracket. I have a few of the aftermarket style, without the stand-off, and they are not correct, however they can be modified to work. This style is commonly found on the GM cars of the same era.
The '62-'66, I believe, models are mounted on the radiator support and the '60-'61 are mounted on the firewall, adjacent to the master cylinder. The Chevy trucks did not have the bag-style wiper fluid holder. Two speed wipers and fluid containers were an option until 1966, when the Federal government mandated this equipment on trucks, along with reverse lights and lap belts. Until then, this equipment was an R.P.O. (regular production option) installed at the dealership level. |
