454 vs 350
I got a chance of gettin a 78 crew cab that has a 454 big block thats been rebuilt not to long ago. The guys hurtn for some cash. Well heres my question. Will his big block 454 bolt rite up to my 700r4 tranny which is currently bolted up to a 350? Im wanting to take the 350 out the 4x4 and put it into my 2wd, and put the 454 into the 4x4. The 454 has a 400 tranny bolted up to it rite now. thanks for any info.

Re: 454 vs 350
The 454 should bolt up to the 700R4 no problem. But, how good is that 700R4??? Was it rebuilt to handle 450 ft-lb or torque?? If it is stock trany its life expectancy behind 454 will be rather short. However, a proper rebuild with selected hard parts upgrades should make that 700R4 handle anything that a stock 454 can put out.
Another point is TV cable - if you perform the swap make sure that carburetor and flange are set-up for 700R4 TV cable. Failure to correctly set up TV cable on 700R4 (or 200R4) results in almost immediate demise of these transmissions (regardless of engine type). Engine mounts will have to be bolted to the correct holes. Bigger radiator. //RF

Re: 454 vs 350
I would just use the 400 trans. Unless you can't use that transfer case with it. Otherwise it's just as the post above stated. Remove the 350 put the 454 in. Check your TV Cable setup and make really sure it's correctly setup I have actually had this cause me lots of trouble on a swap I did a couple years back. These guys know there stuff and have what you need to make it happen. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/
