Anyone have big brakes out there? I'm trying to find a 14" rotor setup or bigger -and beefy calipers to match- for 6-lug trucks.

I offer a McGaughy's 13" kit. It very nice and affordable. Front and rear set-ups under $1500. If you're looking for 14" plus you may have to adapt a different suspension.

You can always update to C4 suspension via a Dropmember... I know there are some monster brake kits available for the 88-96 C4 components.

Take that one further and use the C4 DM and an adapter bracket to upgrade to a C5 brakes or even the huge C6 brakes. A set of $75 brackets will allow you to do this. Not even worth using the C4 brakes.

I can build a 14" brake setup, but it's not cheap. Once you go past 13 inches, rotors seem to get a lot more expensive. Also once you go to a 6-piston caliper, same deal. $$$. 4 piston calipers are pretty affordable though.

To go that big you are going to end up with something custom most likely, not an off the shelf kit. But it can be done. The McGaughy's kit would probably be a more economical choice.

Twisted Minis is correct. Big Brakes equal big bucks. Search Baer, Wilwood, SSBC for their kits and look at the prices. They don't make what your looking for, but it will give you an idea on cost.

Just for sake conversation, would it be practical to adapt a late model 6 lug to early A-arms?

The spindle geometry is where the issue lies. I haven't taken the time to sit down and compare the spindle diffreneces between the early and late models. It might be more practical than one would think, and then again, it might not be! The more aftermarket brake kits that become available for our trucks make it less and less beneficial IMO.

As mentioned, Big Brakes = Big Bucks... any way you go.

I kinda agree with N2TRUX that if there was a way to be able to use the brake upgrade kits for newer trucks that would open up a world of upgrades. But I also understand that trying to inbreed different truck generations might lead to a pantload of new problems. I just don't want to cheese out on the stuff that is important to a truck build like suspension, drivetrain, and brakes and have to redo stuff because I went cheap.

Using later model stuff really doesn't get you anywhere. You still have to purchase the upgraded 'kits' to get the big brakes on late models & I've yet to see any that are 'cheap' and they're somewhat mass produced.

Why 6-lug? There are big-brake kits out there for 5-lug wheels.

I know that I will be spending some big money for brakes anyways, there's no getting around it. As for 6-lug, I just think it looks beefier, although it somewhat limits wheel choices.

I agree with Nate on the late modal deal. If the spindles differ too much in balljoint and tie rod placement, and incline, it could do more harm than good in the long run.

If someone goes through the process to get the first set prototyped, they could be put together as a kit after that and made accessible to everyone.

Baer brakes offers large brake kit, but not cheap. Call Bill K. at Baer is is really helpful.
