NV 4500 Issues
Hey everyone. I posted this over on the 88-98 board but i fugured i would put it here too cause this one gets more traffic and its kind of a generalized thing.
I am working on my buddies 92 chevy 2500 with a nv4500 transmission. He has been having clutch problems forever now and finally after replacing multiple slave and mastercylinders we decided the preasure plate or throwout bearing was seizing up causing these to die prematurely. So we pulled the tranny and transfer case and replaced the clutch and pressure place and throw out bearing and pilot bearing. The throw out bearing was shot and was previously installed incorrectly. so after replacing everything and putting it all together and bleading the clutch system we cannot get the clutch to disengage. fork is moving but i suspect not enough. Have any of yall ever had one of these do this? I am thinking the fork is either bent of the pivot ball is bad. anything suggestions?

Re: NV 4500 Issues
I don't have much experience with NV4500, but I did have a '92 with the NV3500. Can you see inside the bellhousing enough to know whether or not the throwout bearing is moving on the input shaft? Is the slave cylinder rod seated properly on the clutch fork?

Re: NV 4500 Issues
You can see the fork moving the throw out bearing but i suspect its not moving it enough. It being hydraulic there no real adjustment which is another problem. That and the nv4500 and transfer case is not a "light" combination LOL.

Buy an older truck. You won't have these problems! (You'll have 50 other problems, but not this particular problem!)...

Yeah, I know... I'm dying for some kind of overdrive! Since I don't have one, the next best thing is making fun of someone with O/D... HAHA

Re: NV 4500 Issues
Well, the reason I asked if you could see, my issue was that I could see the TO bearing moving, and I too, thought it wasn't enough, it ended up being a sticky synchro. I took it to a shop and was told it doesn't have to move much at all to disengage. Maybe try draining the fluid and seeing how much metal (brass) is in it? I know that synchomesh fluid is expensive (like $15 quart...) but it may let you see what's really going on in there.

Re: NV 4500 Issues
Could be a possibility but it shifted fine as long as the clutch disengaged. With the truck turned off it also shifts fine. Not that im a manual transmission guru by no means but i think if a syncro goes then you wouldnt be able to shift that gear at all????
