Impala, Caprice, Roadmaster rear-end
Has anyone put in an impala, caprice, or roadmaster rear-end in 60-66 Chevy trucks? The reason I ask is because I see rear disc kits being sold on here that require the disc and caliper from one of these cars to go on the bracket that they are selling. I will be doing a swap before long and was wondering why not just swap out the whole axle? Are these axles factory posi?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Derek |

Re: Impala, Caprice, Roadmaster rear-end
I have one in my 64. Disc brakes and a posi. 5x5 bolt pattern. We are in the process of doing the rear fab work now. (Notch etc...) Cut off the old saddles and weld in new ones for the TA's. Also you will have to relocate the trac bar on certain years that have the boss on the pumpkin. I can't remember how much, but it is a little wider . I'll try to post some pics as we are mocking this up as I type this. Doug

Really all you need are the 'crooked' axle saddles to do the swap and check to make sure your backspacing and axle width wont be an issue.

Re: Impala, Caprice, Roadmaster rear-end
As promised here is the pic. It is about 1" wider than the stock rear. Approx 58". I still have to weld in the saddles, airbag mounts, shock tabs and track bar. Hope this helps. Go for it. Doug

Where are you measuring to? The original '63-'70 truck 12 bolts measure 63 1/8" from WMS to WMS.

Re: Impala, Caprice, Roadmaster rear-end
Ok I had to go out to the shop and re-measure everything again. From where the wheel mounts it is approximately 61 inches. So I guess that makes it narrower than stock. Thanks Captain.
