VIN decode please

This is the only ID tag I could find on my truck, there is not one on the drivers door jambs anywhere nor evidece of one ever being there, just this one on the kick pannel.

Re: VIN decode please

I tried decoding it with my LMC catalogue. it says if the first 2 numbers are 10 it's a 1/2 ton, 15 it's a 3/4 ton, but it doesn't list 25 so I would guess 1 ton. The 3rd and 4th numbers are the bed length, 01 is shortbed, 02 is longbed, but no 03 so maybe 9 ft? P is the assembly plant, Pontiac. N is the year, 60-61, and the numers after are the build number, N10001-N26000 is 60 and N26001 and up is 61. The letter at the end is the GVW rating, A is 5,000 lbs, B is 7,000 lbs.

61 1ton with a 9ft bed?

Yes it is, that extra foot makes a big difference, it really looks long in person. Soon as I clean out the engine bay I will have to see what the engine is. I was assuming 305 but could it be a 351 or were they just in bigger trucks? I am new to this era of trucks so I will be learning as I go and getting advice along the way.

Re: VIN decode please

I am guessing a 305, the 351's showed a 155/180 gross and net HP rating...
is thier a data plate inside the glove box door? my 61 has an engine info plate there.

Re: VIN decode please

going by the HP rating, and Jolly's site the eng has to be a 305A, surely it has never been changed, truck seems to be all original, even down to all four GMC hubcaps. That being the case I think I am going to make this truck as close to original as possible. I originally planed on changing to modern wheels and tires, but I may keep these stockers now. Dont see alot of these so I would like to keep its originality.
