Re: help please...
na you shouldnt need to get a whole new one. to get to the switch you gotta drop the column. after you take apart the bottom dash on the drivers side and take the steering wheel off you should see a bracket with 4 bolts i believe. take those out and your column should be dropped. you should be able to see the switch on top of the column and the rod. i cant remember exactly how to get to the rod but if you look around under there i believe you can access it through the bottom but you probably gonna have to take the column apart from behind the steering wheel. hope this helps a lil otherwise someone else will chime in and finish the instructions on how to get to it.

Re: help please...
this makes me shake with fear!!!!!(cause I was young and dumb)I had the same problem with my 78 4x4 and it was all I had.had to start the thing to get around and was laying under it shorting the soleniod, and well most can figure out wat happened when she fired and was still in gear!!!(thought it was in neutral)anyway I remember there being a ring on the column down by the dash that I never figured out how to get off,but if you can get that off the rod should be easy to replace.
