Hello all!
Hey guys!
Longtime, no post. So much going on, I don't know where to start. First and foremost, I had to sell the 'burb. Didn't want to, but I was able to buy my family our first home here in the Portland area ($150,000--1951 bungalow in a decent neighborhood), and I did sell the old girl off to a young kid with a '66 Chevy Van, so here's to hoping she's off to a good home. My landlord of 10 years decided to sell, and I couldn't afford the price tag. Long--looooong--story short, I needed every penny, and I had no time--none--to keep up on email, posting, anything. I worked 70 hours a week trucking, while I packed up our house. Made a good profit on the 'burb though, and barely pulled off my down payment. Rolling 40 miles a shift for my commute now, so I'm daily-driving an '81 Mercedes Diesel 4 speed. Fun car for a $1000--utterly reliable--but just not anywhere as cool as a '60-'66! So, with the tax-credit coming in the fall (and a massive home improvement project) I'll be shopping for a new 60-66--hopefully a one-ton, and hopefully a '60... Anyway, really dug this place, and looking forward to getting a new truck, and finding some time to be involved with you guys, where and when I can! Best of luck, and let me know if you see any decent long-beds around the Northwest? Last edited by Oregoon; 08-15-2009 at 11:31 PM. |

Re: Hello all!
Ha! No passive-aggressive Portland-hipsters around here. I moved further east in Portland, so it's strictly working-class families. I'll try and post up some shots of the bungalow in a few days. Like most things, I dig the old stuff, and it's exactly what I wanted: Story and a half '50s ranch-style. Hoping to do a '60s style renovation--Think nuclear-age suburbia!
Already done a lot of work in the yard, and will be doing an attic renovation over the next few years, hence the need for a truck (like I have to convince you guys!). I'm hoping for a '60-'63 longbed, 3/4 or one ton. Won't have a dime until tax time though... |

Re: Hello all! (Update...)
Well, I amended my taxes, and it would seem Uncle Sam is sending me a sizeable check for buying a house this year! While the bulk will wind up back in the house, the bank and some debts, a small amount will be buying me a new truck!
Found a reasonable-sounding '61 on Portland CL for $575, as well as several other likely candidates. SO FREAKING EXCITED! Selling my 'burb was the hardest vehicular decision I've ever made, and I couldn't even bring myself to check out this page for months... I'd get seriously bummed when I'd see another '60-'66 on the highway, even though I knew I'd be buying another sooner or later. Well, it's almost time! |

Re: Hello all!
Congrats on ther house. Here's a 63 LWB 3/4 ton Big Window: http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/1368280557.html
I like 63's because they are the only year with the wrap-around window and later hood... unless you swap hoods like I did. Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 09-15-2009 at 01:29 AM. |

Re: Hello all!
BUMP! So, my wife's car blew up days after Uncle Sammy sent me a check. Neat.
Still looking, still saving, going to sell a clean little '68 Bug in a few weeks (after doing a few things to it), and hopefully, buy another Chevy. Looking between '47 and '66, though prefernce is a '63. Anyway, selling my 'Burb was the most painful vehicular decision I've ever made, but hey, I have a house for my family. I grew up in a nasty trailer, so that's a priority for me. I'll post up again soon. Anyway, let the hunt resume... Last edited by Oregoon; 04-15-2010 at 11:14 PM. |
