My '63 Chevy

Got my truck last Tuesday. Been trying to fix the last owners "work".

It has a 305 3sp. tires are 295/55/15
So far, I have
rebuilt the carb, po installed an electric fuel pump "just to get it started"
removed the electric pump
repaired wiring- hardest was fixing where it was cut at steering column connector
swapped steering column with one from a junk yard YEA turn signals!
turned headlight right side up. yes they can be installed sideways.
adjusted timing
painted grill black
repaired clutch rod (bent back strait, removed washers)
sprayed undercoating on back wall and gas tank
removed wire under hood that ran back all around, was spliced 3 times and hooked to 12v+ at each end.
Cleaned painted new q-jet intake
installed seat from 89 Chevy truck, also carpet for back wall, and seat belts
started scraping paint from dash.

I hit a junkyard Friday, got a intake and q jet for $50 and a steering column from a 63 3/4t for $50. ran the numbers and intake is from a 71 Vett (& other 270hp 350s) and q-jet is one of the 800 cfm versions. I wondered why he dug threw parts for so long to find the "right one" for me.

Picked up the seat and seat belts today for $60 Everything is a nice easy fit
Back wall carpet should help noise some. Need to pick up bolts to belts Monday and make backing plates.

And take more photos.

Plans are for a quick cheep semi gloss paint job, with a pearl white top, some ghost flames and stuff. getting the POS wheels & tire off, installing spun disk.

Good looking truck. Sounds like the de-bugging going well. The only thing to watch out for on those old Q-jet 4 barrels is the were the throttle shafts go through the base plate (the shafts the four butterflys are bolted too) can get wore out, causing rough idle, hasitations, and rich/lean conditions. As long as those are solid sounds like its gonna be a great running '63! Keep us updated!

Q-Jets are great, and besides the base plate issue is the lead plugs start leaking, best to drill it out and put epoxy in there. I think Muscle Car had a bit on how to rebuild old Quadrajets, may be able to look it up online, or order it.

Got the seat belts done (except shoulders) last night and seat back in. I made backing plates from 1/8 steel 2" x 3" for the belts.

Tan and comfort vs blue nasty, that was held in with lag bolts and wood. Or $60 well spent.

Carpet from truck seat came from. This was on the back wall, I got it and the push pins, installed by holding in place, drill for push pins. Easy. It had rubber mat & sound deadner on the back should help noise.





Got the turn signals working, & wired in temp horn button so it is time for inspection. My 'new' steering column show in 2nd photo. No lump as it was from a factory floor shift.

I ordered a small sand blaster. Its the size of an air brush, hope to use it on the dash.

Passed inspection. After new outer tie rod ends.

Also got the electric fuel pump that was supported buy lines only removed and a fuel filter in its place.

Hope to get the license plates Thursday after work.

Not much to talk about. Plates are on been driving some.

I got the inside doors & jams painted,
bought paint for the body,
took it to a car wash that knocked most of the loose paint off,
bought a paint gun- look like a yard paint job!

Today I hope to fix the shifter- PO installed wrong so pattern is 2-3 1-R, first it up and to the right. Also want to trouble shoot the gas gauge.

I found a set of wheels, hope to trade mine for them and $ or just buy outright, but both of us are out of $$.

Wife got the pinstripe fever and ordered a kit. She painted flames on the lawn mower Sunday- VERY good for first set.

Still need stripped, not bad for free hand, first attempt.

Hard to see in photo, but gold hammertone with silver hammertone tips.

I promised a review of the mini sand blaster, and have been playing with it for a while so here goes.

Not great as a typical sandblaster- does not remove most paint well.

GREAT as a cleaner, minor rust remover, ect.

This is a Badger model that looks much like a air brush, it uses very fine ($$) grit to blast with. Wife said, I got some baking soda, want to try that? WOW! cheap and effective.

I use a very small air compressor IIRC its 1 hp, made for tire inflation and brad nailers.

This makes a mess. Best to use outside. With the garage door closed!.

Took the layer of black gunk off the steering wheel, but left the white paint.

Took over spray off rubber molding and parking light lens & trim. I used it tonight to remove rust from the bottom of a tinny dent one the hood.

Overall a great buy at about $25.

I picked up a cheep air brush and paint gun last week, wifes pin stripe supplies should be her Friday. Paint is soon, no $ for anything else!

Nobody move or I'll paint this truck!







Long weekend, yellow would scrape off very easy when wet, so removed all from the cab. Did the door jams with a $5.99 air brush, then could not find a connector for paint gun, so just kept painting, until air brush died. Tues evening got the paint gun fired up, did inside the bed and tail gate. Everything needs a 2nd coat, hope for thurs or fri.

Used Valspar Implement paint. Will do a right up when finnished.

2nd coat. The light in photo make is look bad on bed.




This paint is sandable, and I was able to primer over a spot.

Paint was $29, Hardener was $12 (saving $ for tires and wheels!)
