What V-8 Engine will fit a 1960 frame
My friend Justin Newbury has a 1960 Chevy with a 235 S-6, becasue the engine blew a head gasket and upon inspection of the piston show them to be 0.060 over already, he felt it would be worth changing to a V-8.
He had a 283 and a source for a 396 big block, but have heard that headers ae hard to fit in, but is unsure what would fit the frame of his truck. Can anyone with exp. please drop a note to the BB and give me some giudance for him to go by? He CPU is dead and it would be a while before he can get on the net, so he asked me to see what info I can find for him. Thanks Jake

The 396 will work, but for inexperienced engine swappers, it may prove to be a bit of a challenge. Although this forum is always here to help in those situations. With that said, the 283 will be the simplest since those trucks did come with small blocks.

The 283 would be very easy to install. Make sure you got the right engine perches and that the bell housing off the tranny bolts up and away you go. It will drop right in. The 396 can be done, as Captainfab noted, but it's not as easy.

^x3 on the '283': Just did it in my 65'.
If a complete Neanderthal like me can do it - it must be a piece of cake.
