1960 v8 power steering bracket ?

I have a question ( well no duh) So the 60 I'm picking up has a V8 that is mounted with the front "horse shoe " motor mount. The alternator mounts on the left side. This raises a question on how/were to mount the power steering pump.
So what to do ? any ideas?

Re: 1960 v8 power steering bracket ?

Someone else may the perfect answer, but until that comes along - the first thing I'd do it switch the alternator to the passenger side to make room for the power steering pump in the conventional spot (and closer to the p/s box).

Unfortunately I think most power steering pump brkts use the early style motor mount holes in the block. I'd look at the Alan Grove and Zoops options and see if something can be modified to work.

Perhaps something can be adapted behind, in front of, or welded to the horse shoe for attaching the pump. I have the Alan Grove stuff in my 1960. I've been very happy with all of it. There's nothing fancy, but it's solid steel and fits perfect. If something needed to be cut/welded his setup would be easy to modify.

Does the engine have a short water pump or a long one?

Re: 1960 v8 power steering bracket ?

Sal, I really like these power steering pump brackets from March Performance. They mount to the water pump on the driver's side and raise the pump away from your factory front motor mount. Here's a link for the short water pump model: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MCH-20112/

The prices for these brackets have climbed some since I bought mine. They are high quality and include all hardware. I also really like the ease of adjustment.

Sincerely,
Rick

The one you linked to appears to bolt to the lower front mount holes as most SWP P/S brackets do. Or am I seeing this wrong?

Re: 1960 v8 power steering bracket ?

Well looks like the only choice is to off the horseshoe and install some side mounts. Thanks guys

You could switch to a long water pump, but I couldn't say for sure if the steering pump would clear the front mount.

Do you know any good welders/fabricators. If I were closer I could modify that front mount to accept a steering pump.
