Hello from Irvington,Ky
Hello,
I have been checking the site out and finally joined. I have a 65 chevy fleetside LB that is in need of attention. I'm in the process of refitting the motor with a 350 SB. Its a basic long bed I picked up in Texas back in 1995. Its a stock powerglide and has always been a great truck. I had searched the web for header information, kick down information, and it was all here. The truck is solid but will require countless hours of work and money. I'm retired from the Army, still working at another job. I'm gathering tools at the present time, have a 25 x 25... 2 car garage but just a few tools. this site has already motivated me. Philip |

Re: Hello from Irvington,Ky
I need help.
I'm just about ready to begin this project. Been prodding around with my fingers and this old Chevy needs body work. The top really has me concerned. Its all ate up across the front valance, to the point where I can poke my finger through the inside cab just above the window. The rust at the valance is showing the inside layer of the cab roof. Its all full of rust and the back side is rusty. How can I get all that non exposed rust removed? I guess I should start a build thread over in the other area. History of the 65 Fleetside Let me back up to 1995. I bought this truck from a soldier/friend at Fort Hood, TX. It was in decent shape for an old truck. Auto trans mission powerglide, missing trim, 305 aftermarket motor, couldn't hear it run. Your basic nice truck that needs attention. Here it is 2009, 150,000 miles later, motor smokes and runs on a few cylinders. Your basic neglected Chevy truck. Not once has this truck ever broke down. So now its time to fix it up. I'm wrestling with deciding what to do. I know a frame off is needed but don't know if I should begin such a project. I'm 51, would like to see it through, worried about finding time. I already have a BB 350 with more horses than needed, 410Hp. Would like to keep it stock looking, just thump around to shows and cruises. My priorities would be powersteering, upgrading the brakes, maybe moving the gas tank to the rear, don't like the idea of that in the cab, seat belts and an air conditioner. Any suggestions? Philip |
