Re: the what did you get done thread 10/11/09

Didnt get any actual "work" done but I did talk the wife into letting me get some new wheels/tires for the new work truck/dd/plow truck since I sold my '79 CC a few weeks ago.

I also got some new gears and mufflers for the K5, the exhaust needs some work after switching from long to short tube headers a few months back so I think I'm just going to redo all of it. Hopefully this week I can get the front coils swapped and the exhaust done so I can start driving it again.

Re: the what did you get done thread 10/11/09

Started my weekend early, went to watch the NHRA boys and girls run on Friday at Virginia Motorsports Park. I love the smell of Nitro in the morning, noon and night.

Finally got my speedometer working Saturday thanks to the fine folks at www.transmissioncenter.net

Also installed a new set of valve covers on the 454. The "Hot Rod Account" ($$$) is officially empty. LOL.

Still need to clean up the under hood wiring and make some new plug wires. Lots of paint work to do under there as well.

About the only thing I did truck related was go to Wally-World and buy new wiper blades for my DD.

I had planned to get the 77 out and take a spin, but the weather sucked.

Wrapped up the drop on the 77 Friday, just in time for our first official snow fall of the fall/winter. Other than that, spent time with the family, watched the Vikings beat up on the Rams, and watched the Twins try to defeat the almighty Yankee$$.

I played around w/the air cleaner for my latest old-school project. Still have a few details to finish up but it should be kind cool. Still waiting on parts from AZ..... one I get them, I'll be starting my official build thread.

And for those that know me, I got a haircut.

Well.... I got a foot of hair cut off so that's still a haircut in my book .

Here's something you might appreciate- 283 valve covers on a 350

I can't believe you finally got your weeds whacked.

Kevin- Those wheels brought it to life.

Thanks Ken. You know how our minds work on the 'solid' valve-covers..... Out of sight, out of mind. I've got a set of OE Vette covers in my possesion but I'm going to use them on the 74 (kind of like what you had before in the 77). The 74 will be a 'muscle-car' theme, the 64 is getting something a little earlier.

Well, bought another Chevy. A 78 C10 Silverado for $400.00. This makes my 3rd 78, in addition to a 77 and 2 79's.

Re: the what did you get done thread 10/11/09

I went on a road trip to the "Hunnert Car Pile Up" car show, in Morris, IL. About 12 hours of round trip driving in one day, but it was worth it, if you like "Pin-Up Girls" and rock-a-billy music.
Lots of cool rat rods, traditional hot rods, customs, straight-axle gassers, trucks, and motorcyles.

The weather was cold and windy,... plus they had 5"-6" of rain, the 2 days before the event,... so it was really muddy.
I will post some more truck pics tomorrow.

This is the first vehicle I saw when we got there.
Looks like an old "City Utility Truck". Yellow flashing light and all.

Here's a link to their website:

No.
The temperatures yesterday were in the low 40's.
You saw alot of young ladies dressed in the "period correct" 50's hair-dos, make-up and glasses.
I really wish this show was held in the "hot" summer months,... I think the clothing attire would be much better.

Re: the what did you get done thread 10/11/09

Took a 4 day weekend, finished ripping out the deck, physical therapy on the rotator cuff, moved about 90% off my farm machinery around to mow under it, took the driveshaft off teh red truck to move it and discovered the RR brake is locked (after sitting for 10 years it's entitled), pulled it and the spare chasis out of the weeds, put all my spare sheet metal in the new shed, put about 1/2 my tires in the new shed, cleaned off the freezer, etc, etc. I hurt today.

Re: the what did you get done thread 10/11/09

It's been raining here pretty solid for about 2 weeks so I haven't felt like doing too much. But, I did build some mudflap weights out of aluminum diamond plate and installed new mudflaps on my dually. I'm too cheap to buy pre-made store bought shiny mudflap trim.

Then I painted the wheels and installed some late model center caps I had been saving. These are just the temporary wheels. I have another set of powdercoated wheels that I will put on when I can afford six new 10 ply tire$ to put on them.

I appreciate it Jeff. I bought a new welder 2 weeks ago and that lopped the money tree down pretty short. I'm having to really watch the spending on this thing.

As soon as I can collect 700 dollars for new tires I will have the nice wheels on it.
