Leveling the Ride
In the paint and body section I posted that my son and I are in the process of removing the body from his 72 GMC stepside. Got a few things planned to do to the frame while the body panels are in the shop. One thing is to replace the shocks and I also wanted to lower the rear just enough to make the truck ride level. I would imagine there are kits to buy that are set to certain distances. Can someone point me in the right direction? Certain kits that are easy to install. How much would you think would be needed to lower the rear only just for a level ride?

Baby John... check out ECE's website (here) and move over to the stance photos (here). This will allow you the opportunity to see how their kits look after being installed. (Click the page number (bottom of page) to change the year of truck years.
Again, their prices are a little higher than CPP but with the customer service, American made parts, and phenominal tech support; you can't go wrong. Check out my build thread in my signature (Project Blank Slate) for a step by step on the install of their 6-lug disc brake install and 4.5/6" lowering kit. So for $360.00 I can get new coil springs front and rear that will give me a 2" drop in the front and 4" drop in the rear and new shocks. That's reasonable.
I saw a premium kit that adds a shock relocator kit and some kind of adjustable track bar. Why would I need this? Also, is there a kit that just drops it 2" in the rear? I'm not really wanting to go lower. Just wanted the rear to settle down some to ride level with the front. |

IIRC, they even sell springs by themselves without the the need to purchase a kit. If you're merely looking to lower the rearend to match the front, then a spring drop is all you will need. Give Stan/Mark a call and they should be able to workout a great deal for you.
Or if you're merely looking for springs only, watch the parts board as they are posted for sale on a regular basis.

That's good. Yes I think all I really want is a new set of springs for the rear that will drop the rear 2" (or whatever is required to level out the ride).
I can pick up some new shocks at Napa. Thanks a million. |

Let me suggest that you really give this some thought. I will tell you from years of experience that most people usually want more drop after they get started.
I would recommend the 2/4 drop as it is mild and really gives these trucks a sporty look.
