My only foreign car is gone
I let a family member borrow this Volvo I was selling. Two days after they were using it they said on their drive to work it was sputtering and then it would return to normal driving and then it sputtered for a few seconds and then continued to run fine. Then this guy drove up next to them and was shouting out the window ‘Your car is on fire!’
And it was… First Pic Change the 01.jpg to 02.jpg-13.jpg for more pics. I drove this car for at least 84k miles, can’t tell for sure because the odometer melted, and the person who had it before me drove 100k on it and rarely had a problem. Wasn’t a bad car for what I paid for it, sure as hell paid for itself for all the miles I got out of it. I’m kind of glad it had a Viking funeral at least I did get the front right hubcap, only thing salvageable, the others were fused to the rims and couldn’t be budged. I’ll probably hang it on the wall in the garage. |

Dam that sucks. I dont know why,[problably the immense heat] but cars in AZ are on fire all the freakin time. I never saw a single car on fire on the side of the road while I lived in NY. Then I moved here. Its always happening!

look at the bright side... now's a perfect time to go by that truck you've been looking at. 'Cause lets be honest with each other here... we're all looking at a truck or five right now, no matter how many we own. Its just who we are.

Before they drove off in the car my brother noticed the tailpipe was loose, had about three inches of play but we thought it had just come off the muffler, whatever happened we didn’t pay much attention to it. When the fire started and they were quickly exiting the car, the flames were coming from the back. I didn’t get a picture of the trunk when we got it open, but I’ve never seen anything like it. There were two 1 quart containers of oil and one of transmission fluid, the heat that was inside the trunk had to be incredible because the gas tube from the side of the car to the tank was melted. I don’t understand why the trunk lid stayed the way it is but near the hinges the paint was cooked off and cracked.
Not sure if the tailpipe being detached had anything to do with it, but that would be my guess. With the car sputtering right before the fire was noticed I’d say the fuel line had some sort of drip or leak, probably near the fuel pump? [edit] this was an extra car I was selling, I've already got an 87 4X4 long bed. I was going to use the money to add a cat back and headers but I don't see that happening now Last edited by Bitter Beard; 01-18-2003 at 10:27 PM. |

I looked at all 13 pictures. I have seen cars that have been on fire, but... that car is absolutely Totalled what a mess.
Your Insurance company should give you the replacement value at least. They sure won't want to fix it.

DAMN!!! Sorry to hear about the car but I hope everyone got out okay. You're right it looked like the Norse Gods would have enjoyed that one.
