Need info
I need some info on a 98' Z71. 10b rear. It has gone through 3 rearends. $1200 each. He keeps buying new GM rears, the hole housing and all. Whats wrong? I told him to get a limited slip posi unit and put it in instead of keep buying $1200 rears. He said the ring and pinion teeth just shattered and ground and killed everything internal. What rears will fit? He needs 3:42. I told him if he gets an aftermarket posi and ring and pinion it'll last forever and save him $1200 every few years. All info and links very appreciated.

Re: Need info
A 14 bolt semi float from 88-98 3/4 ton will be a direct replacement. they are still 6 lug and can be found with 3:42's.

Re: Need info
I meant something easy to find. It hard to find 6-lug 3/4t rears, let alone a 14b. Thanks though.

Re: Need info
He has 245/85/r16 I believe, stock 350. He doesnt abuse it, they just keep dieing. I havent seen and light 3/4t rears around here at all, here its either 8-lug 3/4t and 1t or 6-lug 1/2t.

Re: Need info
I`d look a little harder for a light duty 3/4t 14-bolt.That`s your solution and they are plentiful everywhere. It`s odd what`s happening because the rear should last to the junk yard with standard tires and no abuse. If it was the same rear/housing it would be easier to figure. But,a whole new assembly each time? Why would an aftermarket posi make it last forever? The 6-lug 3/4t rears that are hard to find are the Dana 60s from 67-72.GM started building the light 3/4t 6-lugs in`88 and they were more common than the HD 8-lug option in the early years.
