Change a ring gear and not the pinion?
Morning,
Can the ring gear be changed without changing the pinion too?

Re: Change a ring gear and not the pinion?
I'm not sure it will even assemble (much less rotate).

Re: Change a ring gear and not the pinion?
If it is the same ratio, you can get it assembled, but it won't last long....and there would be no point to that anyway. You couldn't possibly destroy the ring w/o hurting the pinion too, so there is no reason to split a set anyway.

Re: Change a ring gear and not the pinion?
well I dont suggest to do it but It does work I broke the pinion gear on my wood hauler. I took a used pinion gear the same ratio, bead blasted both gears and set them up and completely painted them with anti seize. I will say it was a little harry at first but it has been working ok so far.

You are correct. Gear sets are "lapped" together at the factory and become a single unit at that point. You can't (shouldn't) split them after that point. K
