CeeTen's build
Figured I would start a thread and document some of the work I'm doing on my 86. My dad bought this truck new, I remember going with him to pick it up when I was in the 7th grade. He gave it to me about 10 years ago after the old 305 let go. The truck was/is in great shape, he is very easy on vehicles. About the only time it ever got abused is when I would take it out in my teenage years. It sat in my barn for a couple of years before I drug it out and cleaned it up, lowered it and installed an LT1. I think it was 2003. I drove it like this for several years before the AC compressor and the 700r gave up. The LT1 was also getting tired so I figured it needed to come out too. The truck was starting to show some age, looked good from 20 feet but I figured what the hell, while the motors out...........you know how that goes. Looks like it's now gonna be a frame off, lsx powered restomod.
Here she was before I started tearing her down for the second time. |

Re: CeeTen's build
Yanked the LT1 and 700r, started tearing her down. Dad had a toolbox and bed rails on it, so all those holes had to be filled. Also filled the stake pocket holes. Got my son in on it too. He thinks it may be his one day. Who knows?

I'm really stoked that he is showing interest in the old truck. And yep, this thing is clean. It's been painted before, but in one of the pics you can see the original paint on the bed floor. It had a bed mat in it from day one. There is not one bit of rust either. |

Awesome project, as stated before it's nice to see your son involved in the build. What's the color scheme/stance plans?

Re: CeeTen's build
The stance is going down for sure, At least another 2-3 in the front and I plan on removing the drop hangers and flipping the rear. Maybe bags, dunno yet. Going with staggered 20's. Most likely charcoal centered Coys. For color, thought about HOK Blue Blood (it's red) or some kind of silver. Gonna pull the bumper and hidden hitch and do a roll pan, maybe with LED's and fill the factory tail lights and smooth the tailgate. It has a blue tweed interior now that I will be changing to gray, hopefully leather buckets. Progress will slow down some i'm sure, but I'll keep you posted!

Re: CeeTen's build
Keep giving us the updates. You have the looks of a very nice build going. And I have to comment on your boy wearing safety glasses. NICE JOB!!! Teach him early the important stuff.

Re: CeeTen's build
Wow! That truck was clean! This thing should come out looking sweet.. Now I know how this go's, I think I am doing a little paint work and I may add a little something to the inside and then you have a full blown custom show truck. It's so hard to just do a little bit to a truck, or is that just me.

Re: CeeTen's build
Got a little done today. Built a dolly for the bed, Pulled the front and rear glass (without even breaking it!!), pulled the AC controls and put some blue LED in to match the Dakota Digital cluster. I have a Mar-K tailgate skin and some SPI epoxy primer on the way so hopefully progress will start to pick up again.

Re: CeeTen's build
looking good!
hope it doesnt leak in there since you got rid of the drip rails. everyone told me it would leak in mine if i took them off so i ended up painting them to make them "go away". i always thought they were ugly. what color you planing on painting it? |

Re: CeeTen's build
Thanks! Don't think it's gonna leak. I have all new weatherstripping, it stays inside and doesn't get driven in the rain. As far as color, still not sure but now I'm leaning towards HOK "Orion Silver"
