Newbies from Victoria, BC
Hi all,
Just registered here a few days ago, and as of today my wife & I are proud owners of a 1952 GMC pickup 'rescued' from a farm in Saskatchewan! My wife's always wanted a classic pickup, loves the 5-window cabs (as well as the Apaches and Cameos!), and she found this one online... relatives of ours picked it up and are storing it for us until we can head out to trailer it back, most likely in a couple of months. It's all basically there, very little damage and the usual rust... been sitting for 12 years! Neither of us has owned an oldie like this, this will be Kari's truck once we rebuild/restore it. We're kind of leaning towards a custom: upgraded suspension, V8, moderately custom interior... going to be a learning curve but it should be fun... maybe the kids will help if it interests them! We looked at a '53 Chev 3/4 ton needing resto earlier this year, but just couldn't go for the price being asked plus it wasn't a 5-window. As for other vehicles we have a '05 Chevy Avalanche that's our daily kid/grocery/building supplies hauler, and a '64 Chevelle wagon that I'm using as a daily driver until I rebuild it - has a 305 & 4-spd auto in it, front discs; kind of a mild custom that needs to be redone properly to get it back to what it should be. Also have an '85 Buick T-Type WH1 that's awaiting a frame-off rebuild, it has some mods to make about 300 HP out of it but has some of the dreaded mid-80's G-body frame rot. As for the people stuff, we've been married 3 years, I 'inherited' 4 kids in the process and we live in the quiet suburbs of Victoria. I work at a local university in information tech and my wife is in management of a not-for-profit social care society. Looking forward to learning more about these trucks, I've really liked reading about the projects in the forums and seeing the great range of styles. Cheers, Mike
