Mystery Glovebox Switch - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

There is a three way toggle switch inside my glovebox. See images below. The 3 settings are On, Shock Off, and Off. I have always wondered what it does since I bought my truck. Any ideas?

only suggestion i have is to follow the wires and see what it's hooked up to

I would guess it goes to an alarm.

My next step was to follow it to see where it goes. I just thought I would see if anyone knew. It does not seem to do anything when I press it. Thanks, Gang!

I would say this was a switch for an alarm that had a shock sensor. Just my .02

"A switch-off shock muting circuit for use in an AM receiver comprising a muting element disposed in a signal transmission path extending from the antenna through the demodulation and low frequency amplifying sections to the speaker of the receiver, a power switch and control switching means interlocked with the power switch, the control switching means being operated at an earlier time than the turning off of the power switch to thereby control the muting element, whereby spark noise caused by the power switch is prevented by controlling the muting element from the control switching means to thereby interrupt the signal transmission line earlier than the turning off of the power switch. Since it`s not factory and it`s only on your truck I think it`s up to you to teach us something.

Sounds good to me.I`m no electrical engineer,so I`m not familiar with all the terms used.But,that doesn`t make this explanation wrong.Somehow I somewhat followed that and I recall the "thump" from AM radios back in the days.I understand this is a way to cut power to the speaker until the radio is powered up.Before stereos there were many enhancements used on AM radios.A reverb switch is the one I recall.

I doubt this has anything to do with an alarm. The glovebox is one of the first places a thief would look, right?
