Re: !966 C-10 Drums

the lugs are on the axle itself. you would have to swap them or redrill for 5 lugs and use 5 lug drums. pretty sure thats right. can anyone confirm?

Something doesn't sound right here. On a C10 the wheel studs are pressed into the axle flange. Is the axle and all coming out with the drum? You can convert to 5 lug, but you first have to change out the axles to aftermarket 5 lug axles. Then you can upgrade to the larger 5 lug brakes by changint the backing plates, drums and all internals. This should be able to be found at a local wrecking yard.

Its not that simple....this kit is splined to work with the OEM rearend. Even if you go to a shop they still respline your originals and or fit adaptor style backing plats. Its almost better to do it correctly and just get a new rearend off a donor...this way you can get better freeway gearing too! BUT the kit is descent too.

Re: !966 C-10 Drums

Me thinks we're havin' terminology issues here
The brake drum is just the the "capped tube" about 11 by 2 inches on the end of the drive axle. the drive axle holds the wheel studs (another missname because they are spline cap srews) Any production 1/2 ton rear drive axle assembly (also shortened to axle to add to the confusion) that I, and I would guess most of us, have seen have the wheel stud drawn thru the axle shaft's flanged end.
6 bolts were mentioned which on a 66 chev or canadian GMC should indicate a semi floating GM corporate 12bolt (named for the 12 bolt cover pan)
Does this put us all on the same page???
