Tailgate window crank rebuild??
I have a 76 Jimmy and the Tailgate window crank is completely fubar. Some time ago the lock went but since it was broken in the unlocked position I didn't worry about it. Well on one of our single digit temperature days I went to crank the window down and heard a snap and the sound of several little parts tumbling down inside the gate... (Tell me that's not a $h1tty feeling when that happens) Metal fatigue and super low temps finaly got the better of the already worn mechanism.
I opened up the access plate and slid the window out and checked the components, none of them are salvagable The pot metal is pretty well torn up and the lockset just tumbled out upon letting the gate down. I've ordered a new crank but it included none of the other parts. I'm looking for any leads on a replacement lockset and the parts that go between the crank and the lift gears? I've been searching for a few days on line and I havent even come close. Would this part go into later years maybe I'll have better luck searching newer models. I was going to look into getting another gate but I might just run into the same problem with a used unit. Any leads on parts would be much appreciated! Happy new year! Thanks! Matt |

Re: Tailgate window crank rebuild??
I would say to look at the local Junk Yard or look at a LMC catalog. LMC normal has everything that you're gonna need.

Re: Tailgate window crank rebuild??
Yeah LMC has all but two key components. Not sure why they dont have them, it pretty much makes any of the other parts you would order to do a full crank replacement useless.
I suppose I'm stuck with used parts. M |

Parts 1-7 should be all you need for the outter handle. Part 56 is what turns the regulator... Chuck

Re: Tailgate window crank rebuild??
Mine must've failed fully on the previous owner, the one on the truck is a junkyard replacement so the lock keys don't fit and the handle is broken off. I got a new lock cylinder from classic parts and had a locksmith fix it to match my other locks/key. I ordered the rest of the the window crank assembly but it's on backorder.

Re: Tailgate window crank rebuild??
It appears the parts missing might be fastened to the regulator and might possibly come with it when ordered. Anyone ever get a replacement regulator and recall it coming with the gear and pawl that the lock engages to turn the regulator?
These are the parts that broke off on mine. At this point I'm guessing a new regulator is in order if these parts are attached. M |
