292 induction setup
hey guys, im new here but have looked on and off for a while. i have a 1966 c10 with a 250 in it and have a neat candidate for a swap. i got a pretty neat motor in a trade recently. 292 .40 over, flattops, 10.25 cr, big block chevy valves and rockers, lump port heads etc. i have a few questions. i like the idea of the clifford dual webber setup but not the 1300 or so dollars. would their 4 barrel intake with a nice 4 barrel perform similarly? that sounds much better and i can still afford a radiator and other odds and ends. i also have an m21, sachs clutch and steel flywheel to swap with it. I assume the clutch linkage should be the same as the 250, is this correct?
if anyone has done a swap like this and has any insight at all with warmed over 6's let me know! thanks for the help fellas! |

Re: 292 induction setup
The 4b will run better depending.. I have an offy with 4b, I would love 2 2's or 3 singles but yes the cost is crazy, then you have to think about linkage. I am going to run a 700 tranny and the TV cable set up is not so easy when you get into multiple carbs depending on if its progressive linkage etc. Even with your comp I would look at running a 500 or even a holley 390 if you can find one. inliners.org is a great place for info, oh and make sure you get a plate to warm the bottom of your intake as the stock one wont work with the 4b intake. Again inliners.org check it out. GL on your 6..

Re: 292 induction setup
The intakes can often be found used on ebay. A 2x 1bbl intake with linkage can be had for $275 at http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/aca...?productid=106
I also have ran a Holley 390 and it was great. You can get those new at Summitt or Jegs, but they are a little pricey new. Used ones are often for sale. I haven't looked at Clifford for awhile, but I'm sure they have some of the same. Theres also http://www.vintagespeed.com/ What chevlow said on inliners and also http://www.stovebolt.com/

Re: 292 induction setup
Here is what my buddy is running on his 292...the carburetor is a Holley 390 (not pictured here).
I think you'll enjoy a single 4bbl, not having to worry about tuning two carbs.

Re: 292 induction setup
Clifford makes a water heated intake so it eliminates the "plate". 326 Pontiac OHC ran a quadrajet my personal preference for carb, you can contact SMI Induction (Sean Murphy) provide the requsite info and he will assemble a carb that in most cases is an out of the box plug and play some minor idle adj and for the most part this carb will serve far longer than any holley. I have set up a 250 similar to this and the owner insisted on a holley well it was back to the carb tech shop several times and it continually needs tweekin, I have and have heard of others (GM Muscle Cars ) using SMI and swear by them. No matter what you do that 292 is a gas hog but man its got torque and it blows minds when ya pop the hood. Id set it up with stovebolt cast exhaust on the 250 we used one muffler dual 2-1/2 in and out with the last 18 inches 3in out one side in front of the rear tire and it sounded killer really turned heads. Frank (Pickump) has a pic he posted a while back of this engine.
