c-notch
I have a western chasis 5/7 drop. its going on my 78 swb. i have a few questions about the c- notches. Oh i also have a slam air kit to put on it also. first the notches look the same and i was wondering if they should look differant like one for the pass. side and one for the drivers side. becouse on the drivers side the shock is facing to the rear of the truck and on the pass. side the shock is facing forward. also how should you decide where to line the notch up for the cut.? western chasis dosnt give you any info on this stuff im pretty disapointed with them. do i have to relocate one of my shocks ? the slam air bracket is suppose to bolt onto my c- notch plate and it looks like the shocks might be in the way . also if i bolt it to the c notch plate then the bag on pass. side will be forward of the axle and the bag on the drivers side will be in the rear of the axle . thanks steve

I would install the flip kit first.
The axle flip saddles will locate the axle rearward just a little, (to center the axle in the wheelwell) and help to have no driveshaft length problems. Then you can locate the axle "centerline" on the frame. Make a template of the bolt in notch out of posterboard or light cardboard. Transfer the template to the frame and start cutting. Measure, measure, measure. I'm not familiar with the slam air kit. Who makes it? I would get the 5/7 installed first. Last edited by lolife99; 01-02-2010 at 03:08 PM. |

ok i will put the kit together then do my cutting. will i have to take it back apart to have the room to do the c-notch. thanks steve

both of my c notches that were sent to me are wrong. so sport truck direct is hopefully going to handle it with western. both my notches are the same they didnt send me one for the left and on for the right . and they made the notches all backwards too . the dont line up wth my shocks the right way. Is it ok to have the one bag in front of the axle and the other bag behind the axle becouse the way my shocks set . thanks steve

I would relocate your shocks and put the bags in the same place on both sides.With that much drop you'll want to adjust the angle of the shocks anyhow.

should i relocate them both towards the front. or back and how do you relocate and change the angle of them. the shocks that are on there were ordered with the flip kit i didnt know i had to do that thanks steve

well i called tech support on the bags and they said that i would be ok with putting one in front of the axle and one behind the axle. they said to keep them as close to the centering pin on the axle as i can. so now i wont have to relocate my shocks.

I had Slam-air bags on my 93 x-cab with a 4-6 drop. There was no problem with the shock contacting the bags. I used BellTech notches though. If I remember correctly, which I might not, I mounted the bags forward of the diff.

Sorry Lo78 I missed your post.Calling tech support was a good call.If they say it's good then it must be good.I thought the shocks looked like they were laying down too much to be effective,and that one bag in front and one behind would affect performance.Didn't mean to mislead you.
