Front brakes

Installed a 82 front X member on my 69 c 10 frame and installed 3 inch drop spindles from Summit, new rotors and calipers, now when install pads rotor will not turn by hand, rotors 1 1/4 etc any ideas how to correct?

You may have the calipers for a 1" rotor and not the 1.25" rotor. Both were available on the truck so it is easy to get the wrong parts.

thanks for come back. changed calipers and NAPA went thru book said this was the correct part, if I re install old rotors , hub turns. rotors have some wear but very little,
I keep finding that their is different rotors J 1 etc and jb 4 5 etc , I havent been able to find out difference yet, as this could be problem not sure, but susposly I have the correct caliper for 1 1/4 rotor

Maybe the pistons in the calipers are not retracted enough. A c-clamp will do the job to fully seat the piston so the pads are not dragging so much. It should move pretty easily.

I have heard there were some thicker pads available that were used on the 1" rotor so it is possible you have too much thickness for it all to work right.

piston all way in have clearance on inboard pad outboard pad is the one that is giving me trouble, and you could be right about pad, may be little thicker than it should be, or rotor may be little over tolerance. thanks for help any more ideas keep them coming

I still think you have the 1" caliper and not the 1.25" version. I wish I had some dimensions for you to check but I don't have anything.

I would be inclined to take one back to the parts store and compare it to another that is supposed to be right.

I have the same problem on my '77 K20 on the driver side. New pads are tight but turned .004 off the rotor and then the outboard pad is hanging up. May have to put a shim between the rotor and hub.
