Which Lift?

Hey all,

As I begin to gather parts for my build I am beginning to look for a lift. I currently have a Super lifts 4" kit installed on my driver. I am doind a frame off, and the springs both front and rear are broken in a few spots. My question is I was going to have the springs redone but the price is a little high, and I figured by the time I get new shocks I will have as much as I would if I bought a new kit. I am also going to get new springs for the rear with the lift incorporated into them as oppsed to using a lift block, which I have now.

I was looking at Super lifts, and Rough Country. I can get a complete Rough Country 4" lift with new rear springs for 549.00 I cant check the price on the super lifts kit cause it just says call to check pricing.

Is the rough country kit a good kit, or should I stick with the Super Lifts Kit.

What are your opinions, and is there a better place to buy the kit with a better price.

My experience with Rough Country is just that, they ride Rough.

Pick up trucks are supposed to ride rough, especially the old ones.

I'm putting a pair of Rough Country leafs, to gain some payload...I'll let you know how it goes. (tomorrow)

I am not too concerned with the ride, My truck is used mostly for plowing and work. My DD is a 06 F-350 crew so it rides nice enough. I will call superlifts today and see what they get.

The rough country is nice cause the kit is really complete, it comes with the drop pitman arm and everything. The super lifts thats all extra.

I will call though and see the price differences.

Benelli, Let me know how it goes, and how it rides. Mine should be simple as its a bare frame...LOL

National Tire sells a house brand for cheap.The cheapest best riding springs are Tuff Country EZ-Rides,IMO.Rough Country is a good HD spring and pretty much as cheap as you can go.NTW`s are prolly just RCs.

i just recently purchased a 4 inch rough country lift from ntw.i went with new springs all the way around and shocks and installed stainless flex lines.i am very pleased with the ride and the kit came with every part needed.

Can you measure the distance from the ground to the rocker panal on your truck for me.

from the bottom of the rocker lip to the ground mine sits 26 inch's

from my experience with rough country they were surprisingly stiff. i have a 2" lift spring in a 1987 s15 and the ride SUCKS. ive cracked the upper control arm frame mount 2 and am going to have to get it re-welded a 2nd time today.

superlift on the other hand has been very comfortable. i ran 6" kits on both my 70 k25 and 71 k5 and am very please with the flex and ride of the springs.

Kind of some mixed reviews here. I like the way the truck above looks. I know there may a little difference in the ride...but its a solid axel leaf spring truck how good is it gonna ride to begin with. My current Superlifts Kit has broken springs in the front.

Like I said I will call and see what the Superlifts kit comes with as a kit and for how much. Right now due to the reviews I am torn between the 2

Also I am going to be plowing with this truck so maybe the stiffer springs from Rough country may be better?

That thing is saweet just as it is.Reminds me of a friend`s`79 K/20 back in the day.He ran 9.00-16s,about the same size as 255/85s.

That truck would look the same no matter who made the lift.
Here`s my old`84 I had.It had 4" Superlift front and spring work on the back.

Yeah I understand that. I was checking prices and the Super Lift is 1500.00 compared to 549.00 + shipping. I was also looking at a BDS which is right around 1000.00.... I dont have a huge budget for this build, but I am also trying not to cut corners either. Other than the harsh ride, are the kits comparable. Like I sadi I am not expecting a caddy here.

I can do a lot with the extra money saved on the lift for other supplies/parts I may need, but if the only difference between RC and the others is the ride, then its hard to justify, in my mind anyway, that an extra 500-1000 is worth a better ride...all other factors being the same.

i have had many lifted trucks and have tried every lift out there to me they all ride pretty much the same unless you have a independent front end,but with a solid axel and leaf springs it's only gonna be so go.like i said i am very pleased with my lift and the ride and for the price you can't beat it.

Don't get BDS's if you want it to sit level. I have had two different sets for the front and neither sit level. My bad for changing. I have ran Tuff Countrys for years and never had a problem. They are a good ride.

Thanks for the input and the links all. I think I am going to go with the Rough Country Kit. I was thinking of the shackle flip but I still need springs as mine are shot. Its only about 175.00 more for the rear springs when ordering the kit anyway so I figure what the hay...

check these guys out i bought a 4inch system form them,for my '79 k20.It was a superlift never had a problem with it.I plain on buying a 6inch for my '72 k20

Just out of curiosity, how old are the superlift springs that cracked? I am planning to also to go 4 in/35s on my 76 blazer

I am going to have to say that the springs are atleast 10-15 years old, and the springs in the rear are original, just used lift blocks.
