383 owners information please.
I want to build a motor for my 85. I have a 350 2 piece rear main block. I am trying to decide if I want to build a a 383 or a 355. With the longer throws of the 383 in the 350 block are there any down sides the the 383? I plan to have a qualified machine shop do the block prep either way. Comparing the two will the 383 live as long as the 355 under the same usage? Also is the 383 an engine with more torque than horse power compared to the 355? I will be using the truck as a tow vehicle extra torque would be nice.

Absolutely build a 383 over a 355, there is virtually no cost difference between the two and the 383 will build more torque than the 355.

Re: 383 owners information please.
The 383 will cost a bit more if you are having a shop build it because the block needs to be clearanced for the crankshaft, but that will only be a couple hours labor at most. For a tow vehicle, 383 is the way to go.

383 wont like to rev like a 355 but its not a sports car its a heavy truck and the torque is what you want.
