60-66 body on 73-87 frame? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone ever done this? The reason I ask is I have a 76 C10 that the body is SHOT on. I sold the front sheetmetal, and the rest is junk.... The trans is still good, the diff is still good, the engine has been removed but I have other small blocks lying around. The power steering, power brakes, tilt column etc is all still there. I was going to cut it apart, then thought "Hey, what if I can make use of it?" I know where there's a 64-66 long step sitting, the body is pretty decent (by Sask winter standards) and it was last tagged in 1980, so I'm pretty sure the running gear will be stuck together here and there....

What I am wondering, is has anyone successfully put a 64-5-6 on a newer frame with any level of ease or success? Or am I better off parting out my 76 and using the money to do something cooler?

Yeah I'm wonderin the same thing. Guys are always puttin the front and rear suspensions out of these newer trucks into our old trucks why not swap the cab and bed. Ive heard guys swapping 4x4 blazers frame I was thinking maybe a 2 wheel drive blazer might work

Have not done it, but heard it is a lot of fabrication work. I have a 64 GMC cab just sitting on a 73-87 frame and it looks like you would either have to do a body lift, channel the cab or do some other type of mods.

^ what they are saying... if it is a 4wd, go for it, just space the body off the frame a little bit, joey~ap did this on his k5 66 build.
lowering/2wd?
then just swap the suspension on to the 64-66 frame.

2 wheel drive just change the suspension parts.4 wheel drive would be worth changing as stated above.the 60-72 short bed frames are 115" the 73-87 are 117.5" wheelbase.

Looks like in this case it's worth swapping the suspension and driveline over to the 64-5-6 frame and scrapping the 76 frame when I scrap the rest of the body. Thanks guys!

That's the best thing to do. I've installed a '62 body onto a '74 frame and it's a bit of work building all the body mount brackets. And when it's done it looks like a stock height K10.

Cap, did you use a pickup frame or one from a burb just curiuos as to the profile differences

It was a '62 SWB body onto a '74 SWB frame. The LWB and SWB frames have the same profile. I really don't know how the Suburban frames compare
