stock rear end
what rear end came in a stock 1/2 ton step side with a inline 6 three in the tree tranny? the truck is a 62 btw

The '60-'62's came with what some call the GM55T which has a drop out 3rd member as well as a removeable rear cover. They usually have 3.90 gears in them.

If it is in good condition it will hold up just fine. With that gear ratio I would consider an OD trans such as the 700R4. But that depends on your intended use of the truck and of course your budget.

I don't think there is anyone that makes a posi for those rear ends. You might try searching ebay for a used original one, but they would likely be rare.
