1972 Jimmy Build begins

This Jimmy showed up on the Seattle craigslist, but was located in Port Angeles. I made a deal for this Jimmy sight unseen for $1K. The owner drove it back to Seattle for me and I picked it up about 4 miles from my house.

I will post pics as I get them. I sold this to my brother in law and we will build it in Portland.

You may be able to see the patch on top of the pass rocker, but this is the original rocker. The B pillar section was also repaired by a prior owner. Also, you may be able to see a bullet hole in the passenger floor! There were Mexico stickers on the pass side window and windshield. If this rig could talk....

We put an NOS rocker, repro inner and a kickpanel on the drivers side.

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins

Hopefully by the end of the month. It will have tilt/tach, tow hooks and black interior and red 514 exterior. It ran so well, I put a rear main seal, pan and valve cover gaskets and repainted. The core support, inner fenders, bumper brackets, pulleys, air cleaner and anything that were suppose to be black got powder coated and are done.

1972 Jimmy comes out of the paint shop!

A welcome sight for my brother in law and me. Would have liked it before Salmon season, but here is were we are at. Keep in mind, this came in on the hook at 3pm on Monday and the last few pictures were from 2 pm today. Just under 24 hours of progress. There was a few hours of prep and some project coordination.

Hey John, one thing I have never got quite right restoring these trucks is the heater/a/c under hood box, what did you guys do to clean it and make it have that fresh fiberglass look? Thanks Trevor

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins

Trevor,

Just soap and water on this one. Some times they still have the factory coating and sometimes I spray them with a satin/matte finish. Gloss is too shiny.
