K5 or C5?

If a C10 is a 2wd, and a K10 is a 4wd, what is a 2wd Blazer?? Is "K5" the body code, or is "5" the body code? Is my 76 2wd Blazer a K5 or C5??? This has always bugged me!!!

True but i think what puzzles him is the fact that its a 2WD. So why did GM call it a k5?

Does not follow the logic they establish withe the pick up trucks. I think ts just a matter of badgeing since the VIN has a C or K to indicate 2wd or 4wd.

there was a post a wile back that had allot of input on this subject, i just could not find it.

is it really a 1/2 ton since its not a fullsize truck. its short wheelbase kills any towing capacity. even though it has half ton springs and axles...

I would assume so since tow capacty is manly determined by the front and rear axle capacity of course once you get into the bigger rigs frame strength is diferent

length is a huge factor when it comes to towing capacity. its all about stability....

Yes, when Chevy changed the pickup body style for 88 they kept the C/K. The blazer and suburban went to R for 2wd and V for 4wd from 88-91...

True! Dont forget the Crewcabs! Mine is a 1990 V3500.. Try ordering parts for it, you have to double check every time and make sure the guy didn't punch in 1990 "K3500"

Well I was thinking of getting a personalized plate and didn't want to have anything with a "K5" if it actually isn't a K5..

Re: K5 or C5?

Good discussion, and I came to the conclusion that if GM didn't make one, then I would.

That's why I decided to build my own C5 Blazer. And to take it one step further, sine they did not exist in 68' I am making one of mine a 50th Anniversary edition.. I also like the idea of a personal plate reading C5 Blzr or something, if for no other reason than to get people to ask questions..

Re: K5 or C5?

Reviving an old thread for one questions. I will also post a new one just in case>>
Keith, you said that C10 and R10 are in essence the same, but is there any difference between them at all. Reason I ask is because ia m fixing to buy an 87 and just found out that it is actually named R10 in the carfax. Is there anything I need to know, in terms of difference. I had read that the suspensions were different if so how, and is it good or bad. Thanks for any help/info

I think the R10 was given to the trucks in 87 for the fuel injection(throtlle body).

I always thought the R/V designation was to distinguish from the C/K series in the 88-91 body style crossover Crewcabs, Blazers, Burbs and I think even reg cab 1 ton cab and chassis trucks.
