Rear Auxilary heater

Has anyone had any experience putting in a rear heater in there Blazer? I was looking at a Flex-a-lite Mojave. Any advice or opinions??

A few years back i put a reddot heater for a school bus in the rear of my brothers 72 blazer and it worked like a charm. basically a small radiator with a shroud and 2 speed fan, about 6x12 and 6 tall. napa will carry these.

If you do any salvage yard searching, look for a rear heater from a suburban. I plan on some rear heat as well. Some heat in the rear will keep the kiddies warm, as well as keep the windows in back from fogging up.

A new heater core in these blazers makes a huge difference my 71 with the original core struggles my 70 that has a new one will run you out

The front heater works fine, but here in Alaska, -20 to -30 in the winter is not uncommon, and the kids in the back need all the heat they can get

I agree with turp. Saw a couple of 80s Subs in the junkyard. Those heaters would work good. You'll have to take the hoses too, But I don't think it wouldn't be too hard to fit. It'll even look sorta stock when your done if you get right one. I'm going back on the weekend if you want a photo.

Lots of the 12 passenger vans had them too.... very nice for the back of the short bus riders!!!!

I've got an 89 Burb. And the rear heater is a must have for them. But they screw to brackets under the roof skin, and not sure how you would hang them from a blazer roof. Unless maybe you mounted it to the floor behind the rear seat.

I have the mojave heater in another rig of mine and it works killer, had it for about 8 years and no problems.

hmmm, the one I meant comes up from the floor. Pass side, near the back. I shoulda got a photo when I was there. I looked at it again, but forgot my phone so I had no camera.

Yea, the Mojave heater seems like it would work good. I planned on putting it on the floor just on the back of the center console so it blows across the kids in the back. I'd planned on running copper lines from the engine compartment under the floor to the heater. I think that's going to be a pain to run them, but it should last that way. Then insulate the lines too.

Hey there, I am in Wasilla as well. I have the green and white 71 you may have seen running around. I ran into a young guy with a 69 today at Napa, I guess there are a few of us first gen lovers in Wasilla. Let us know if you do this mod. I would be interested. My kids freeze in the back too. The rear window fog up is a pain as well.

Hey there Matt! Yeah, I do believe I have seen your Blazer around town. Did you park at Carrs and carpool? I've just had mine back on the road about two weeks now. You may see it at the Carrs parking lot, that's where I park it each day to carpool to Anchorage. I think I will definitely be doing the rear heater mod on mine over the summer, so I'll let you know how it goes. I don't go to Napa too often, but I'm getting to be a regular at the Schucks down town!

My buddy installed 2 of the summit brand heaters, They are a mojave knockoff and a good bit cheaper if i remember right. I dont have any pics but he mounted his behind the seat pointing towards the passengers. That thing blows hot! He used copper tubing, the stuff in a roll so you can bend it easier. I bet the "pex" water pipe the red stuff from home depot would work good too.
