What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
well the weather finally broke here and you dont have to wear coats so we did accomplish something truck related this week. I took out the grinder and fround off the rivets on the tailgate straps for the S10 and changed out the old damaged tailgate straps for the new aftermarkets i bought a week or so ago.
In addition i bought a cheap set of used tires for the front which are the right size and therefore do not rub on the sway bar when you turn a hard turn. My buddy sold his house so this week i helped him a bit by raiding his yard sale and buying a whole bunch of junk that i dont need ( wife helped) and i will post pics of the tool bench i bought shortly when i take delivery How about you all??

Finished the siding on my garage Saturday and went to a cruise-in Saturday night. Sunday was spent burying conduit getting ready for my new driveway. The concrete guy said he plans to begin the job this Thursday. YeHaaaa!

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
I finally got my truck running...I replaced the electrical ignition switch inside the dash and charged up the batteries...I also restored my gauge cluster while I had it out...put a new shift indicator w/pointer, painted the inside of the housing chrome, put new bulbs in it, put a new temp gauge in, and then I polished the gauge cluster lens and painted the gauge pointers...for those that are wondering, I painted the pointers w/acrylic paint made by Apple Barrel in color 20470 Pumpkin Orange...in the pic it looks alittle too dark, but in person it looks perfect...it perfectly matched the newer temp gauge pointer when I went to paint over it...I got the paint in the craft section at Wally World...I also replaced the connector on the ignition switch I replaced and the connector on the headlight switch that melted last summer...so the truck is now back up to snuff I just need to get it back together, but it starts and runs like a champ...I also pulled out all the new stuff that I bought for the interior so I can put it in when I put it back together...I got a gauge bezel out of a 91 burb with the 1 1/2 din opening and the factory cd player to go with it...I also got a mint A/C control to replaced the old one I have that the chrome is chipping of the knobs...and I also got a mint horn button to replace the cracked one in the truck now...little things, but it's all in the details...
My wife and I also decided this weekend that instead of fixing up my regular cab truck and selling it, that we are going to sell her Honda Accord instead...that way we'll get more money and we don't have to put any money into the Honda...and I'll still have two squares...lol Last edited by Stitch; 03-21-2010 at 05:36 PM. |

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
Saterday installed new intake gaskets on a freind's '01 Nissan car....and let me tell ya....it SUCKED!!! Took all day....if anyone asks ya to "help" them with one....RUN!!! Haha....
Also, drug this pile home....plain jane, 6 cyl, 3 speed. The springs have been torched, so it's on the snubbers all around. It needs to come back up. Plan is to get it somewhat presentable for as cheap as possible and just drive back and forth to work. Today I want and looked at an '87 3+3 duallie, carb'd 454, lowered, Alcoas, etc....will be bringing her home maybe next weekend. She's straight and fairly clean, but the red paint is faded/peeling....

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
Got the new LS motor on the stand. Fixed wifes car radiator, took my 2yr old to a birthday party, cleaned up the garage and contemplated pulling my truck apart for the conversion.
69BBsuburban my wife has an 01 nissan altima and I feel your pain with those intake gaskets. I basically had to make my own tools to fix it especially trying to install the passenger side manifold bolts. |

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
My 85 moves under its own power now!!! I drove it around the block with my son. I just need to finish the wiring for the headlights and the rest of the accessories and then have the exhaust ran. Truck runs great and has a decent amount of power for a 305.

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
Spent most of this weekend tinkering with the '79 crew cab dooley, went pretty well. Removed air horns and search light from the cab roof, then installed new GM clearance lights. Replaced the front door strikers, replaced the wiper motor, replaced the blower motor and fixed the relay connector, and installed a nice black dash pad. Also got the dome and courtesy lights working and replaced all four door switches. Got a lot of little stuff taken care of, but still a lot to do.

Nothing truckwise. Went to an airshow and saw the Thunderbirds and a U-2 flyby.

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
I was able to get the new tires mounted on my Rally wheels early this week. Saturday, I rode up to Marietta, OK to meed member Kaysenmc and finally pick up the bumper brackets and headlamp bezels he has been holding for me. He and his brother have a few really nice rides up there. It was nice to BS with a fellow truck guy for a bit. I got home and put my rechromed rear bumper on the truck. Saturday was also my anniversary, so my wife and I went out for dinner and a movie, and saw The Runaways. My quick review: piece of dookie. It was terrible.
Today, we went to a birthday party for one of our friend's daughter, she turned 1. A pretty good weekend here.

Re: What did you get done 3/21/10 March Madness Edition
1) Did a little bit of work on HOT383 -but this project is being held up by back orders from Jegs and Summit! Aghhh!
2) Fixed intermittent brake lights. First I thought that PO's hill-billy wiring was the cause of intermittent brake lights! Take a look at this rat nest: I had never seen more crimp butts and wire clips used to hold wiring together: After cleaning this mess it was simplified to this: After all wiring cleanup it end up being intermittent brake light switch! Oh well - wiring needed cleanup anyway... It had to be done the right way anyhow! //RF

Thanks... it needs some TLC... and also fix things the "right" way. I'm not looking to get crazy with it... I'm going get rid of my Intrepid and use this as my DD... MAYBE.
