My new old truck! Suspension????
Hello,
Been lurking on this site for a couple of weeks now doing some research before I made a purchase. Finally pulled the trigger on Saturday and picked up this jem in Yukon, Oklahoma. I plan on rebuilding the 350 thats in it now and changing out the 4 speed to an automatic. I also plan on making the interior look nice but leave the body the way it is with the nice patina. My question for you guys is what should I do for suspension? I plan on running 22's maybe 20's and want it slammed so I have a little tire tuck in the fenders. I would like to do this on a budget so I don't want to drop 5k for an Air Ride Technologies setup. I just want the truck to sit low all the time. So any recommendations on what I need to do with the suspension setup would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
biggest thing you have to remember that I didnt think about when I started planning my truck is: you have to be able to turn the front wheels! -so you can't go too low in the front without proper backspacing and suspension setup. - that's whats good about air suspension and big wheels, you can raise it up to get clearance. I really wanted to tuck more tire in the front, but with a static drop Im as low as I can go and still turn fully lock to lock - Im running a 5.5/7 drop but also only running 15x7 wheels so I have a little more room to play with I think. good luck brother, truck looks really cool!

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
I am putting bags on mine right now. I wish I would have done it from the start. It can be done fairly inexpensive if you keep it simple. I like the idea of the height adjustment with air. We just spent a week in highlands ranch, co. Nice area you are in. Welcome

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Ok, did the research and figured out the bags are the way to go! Ordered the ART stage 1 kit today with upgraded electronic controller. Also odered 2 1/2" drop spindles and CPP c notch kit. Probably gonna go with the Boss 338's in 20's. Should be in the weeds soon!

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Since I missed your first post, let me welcome you to the "posting" side of the forum. While I am at it, let me thank you for taking the time to research your needs.
Now to your questions of tire size. I like the combo of 245/40/20 and 295/40/20. This gives a nice stagger in tire height, and still retains some sidewall.

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Lose that back bumper quick! That will help a lot in the looks department. Oh yeah, putting it on the ground will also help. Nice truck...

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Nice look with the paint. This should transform nicely with the drop and wheels. You should post a pic on the photo shop forum and let the guys over there do some work on it.

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Looks like you nailed it. It looks like you opted for the Coys C-56. Good choice.

Re: My new old truck! Suspension????
Yes they are Coy's C-56 in a rare finish called natural. They look like cast aluminum but are powdercoated with a machined lip. I had ordered the Boss wheels but had to bail when I saw these! Coy's only had like 10 sets of these made.
