throttle linkage rod

hey guys,

i had my tranny leaks fixed yesterday...on my way home with the truck, my gas pedal got stuck a bit...it has done that in the past...well when i parked it, i tried to rev the engine...however, my gas pedal wouldn't press down very far....so today i was trying to adjust the rod that goes from the throttle linkage down to the rod coming up from the trans (kickdown?)...anyway, the rod broke...so my question is what's the best route to go about replacing this rod...where should i look to get a replacement?

thanks for any help!

i'm attaching a couple pics for reference...it's the lower rod with the sleeve covering it

Re: throttle linkage rod

If you have a tap and die set, go buy some rod at the hardware or steel supply and copy what you have. Linkage rods are fairly easy to make.

You could also remove your exsisting rod and thread it, then attach an extension with a coupling nut.

I recently found balljoint assemblies at the local hardware store and made my throttle shaft using them. Here's a pic of the carb end attached to the throttle linkage.

Re: throttle linkage rod

I haven't tried this, but I would think this would work on out trucks.

Re: throttle linkage rod

Also, if you don't want to make any threads on a rod, you could try buying a piece of all thread and bending it where needed. Worked perfect on mine.

this is what was already on the truck, & the bent end snapped...when i tried to duplicate the rod, it also snapped when i tried to bend it...luckily i had enough rod to just cut a straight piece to length...then i used a couple of "L" shaped brackets to attach the ends...seemed to work out good...i'll snap a couple pics when i get a chance

i'm running the 2-speed Powerglide....you can visibly see that rod coming up from the back of the engine in the second pic i posted...the bend in the linkage rod snapped where it goes through the hole in that other rod
