64 c-10 rear dualie
does anyone know someone that sells a kit? or will a c-30 rear end fit up to the stock c-10 trailing arms? any insight would be great!

With some work it will fit. Do you have the rear?

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
all the c 30's were leaf spring rear, that said you could cut the pads off your coil setup, and make a panhard bar mount for the c 30 rear.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
If swapping a later year dually rear housing, what diameter are the axle tubes? That might be an area of concern & prevent a 'bolt-in' swap. If the axles tubes are larger (3.5" vs 3"), the truck arms might need to be custom built for the addiditional width (3.5"w u-bolt isn't going to fit where a 3" u-bolt fits).

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
given some good steel, and a few good friends i could set one up with the right angles to mount right up to my trailing arms right? and then on that note, how long is the c-30 with tires and all, what type of rear end does it use, and also what is the lug pattern

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
You'd be much ahead to just install a coil spring type of 3/4 ton 8 lug rear end and dually the tires from there.
That way you don't have to mess with welding on trailing arm mount pads or panhard bar mounts. It gives you a bolt in 8 lug bolt in rearend. From there the dually swap is easy.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
Longer wheel studs, 1/2 inch thick spacers and you're done.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
So the inner wheel mounts like a standard wheel against the drum/axle flange. The .500" spacer goes on top of the 1st wheel & then the 2nd/outer wheel slips on. Tighten eveything & that's it on the dually conversion?

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
No, it's the other way.
Brake drum, spacer, wheel, wheel. The inner wheel's cup shape will slightly interfere with the fins around the brake drums. The 1/2 inch spacer puts it out far enough so the wheel clears the drum fins.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
Ahhh.... I figured the duals butted against each other in a standard dually application & was thinking there was some reason they couldn't in a swap application.
Would this be the same width as the standard dually housing or the 'narrower' C&C?

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
i know of a c-10 or c-20 with a dually conversion, said it was made by a one rick o'doul? any insight, i took another look today and it looks like it was just a 7-8 inch spacer from the other tire with longer "rods" for my lack of truck vocab. and then just a regular tire(?) i think. ill see if i cant snap a photo sometime soon.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
Just to add, some of the 3/4 ton rearends needed this, but others need no spacer and they clear fine. Apparently some use slightly different brakes. I've done it twice, one needed spacer, one didn't.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
the spacer was all connected and the "lugs"(aka rods in earlier posts) just went trough it, like a circle, with smaller circles surrounding this main circle( molded into itself) and the lugs went through the smaller circles, its a very interesting idea, any one know how i can do this?

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
So if I understand correctly, you want to convert your '64 C10 to a dually? Are you trying to keep the wheels inside the bedsides or fenders? Is your truck a fleetside or stepside? I agree with Tx Firefighter that just using a '72 and earlier C20 rear end would be an easy swap, and then just add the dual wheels as he described. Switching to a '73 and later dually rear end, be it a 14 bolt or a Dana 70 may be doable, but I'm not sure about the U-bolt issue. I'd have to check on that.

Re: 64 c-10 rear dualie
There is a truck near me that appears to be a 60-66 dually. It's back off of the road a little so I haven't been able to get a really good look at it, but it appears to be pretty nice.
