Power Window Sources??

I've found 2 sources: Specialty Power Windows (universal kit) or Electric-Life.
The info I've found via 'search' was limited. Anyone care to share their experiences w/either of the above products?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Specialty power windows are the best kit out there very complete and we have been
using for years at our shop.On top of that we are a dealer and have them in stock

Agree with the SPW windows and products. We are not dealers for their products but they are top flight. We have installed their window kits and wiper kits on these years. All quality and they are very nice people.

Any concerns w/the installs? Specific PITA items?

Re: Power Window Sources??

I have electric life in my truck. They are ok. I didn't like the fact that I had to drill holes at the bottom of my doors. It wasn't a biggie seeing I had the Rod Doors door panels. Other then that they work just fine.

Re: Power Window Sources??

I just went to the Specialty power windows site but didn't see an application for 60-66 chevy trucks. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ELI-GM103-0065-K/ I think mine came with Bocsh motors. Also they are only $251 without switches though.

Re: Power Window Sources??

SCOTI......I have the Electric life kit for 64-66. I pulled it out to get ready for the install and noticed that one mounting screw is supposed to be drilled thru the door below the door panel!!! I used the guide to confirm!!???(WTF??)

I got sidetracked on my BBC install and didnt get to putting them in, but the kit may mount fine without the one screw as the other 3 screws create what appears to be a stable trianglular mounting area, IMO.

If I remember right, those screws at the bottom mount the motor. I have a feeling they will need to be mounted somehow. How about makeing a plate that will bolt to the motor and up to the other holes behind the panel. Just shooting in the dark here. It was about 8 years ago I put mine in.

Re: Power Window Sources??

Good info guys. I definitely don't want to drill any extra holes & would prefer something along the lines of a direct swap if possible (I've got enough projects already ).

Re: Power Window Sources??

Try Nu-Relics. They make a bolt in kit for 64-66 chevy trucks (may have ealier models too). Uses GM motors and stock apearing linkages. Nice quality parts, not cheap, but bolt-in. I had a set but opted for the generic rail style for one piece glass installation.

It indicates the complete package. I'm guessing the window crank switch 'option' could possibly alter the price. I plan to call & verify....

Page 28 I think. They are showing a kit for both door styles(60-63 &64-66) @ $495. Siemens motors on original style regulators. And there is the option to use the original cranks as controllers.

This one looks very similar to the NuRelics kit. I'm liking the window crank option vs. a pwr window switch for control. Then I could wire in a separate hidden switch to control the pass side from the drivers seat. It would keep the 'utility' theme I'm working toward.

"Then I could wire in a separate hidden switch to control the pass side from the drivers seat"

That would be the most demanded feature of that setup. I wonder if they have the wiring and switch setup for it already?

Re: Power Window Sources??

Has anyone tried retro fitting power window units from 70's/80's chevy truck/suburban into one of our trucks?

Any reason why it wouldn't work?

Re: Power Window Sources??

I'm retrofitting my stock regulators with cadillac motors. I originally used chevy astro motors, but the cadillac motors are smaller. I have not installed in truck yet , but they work.

Re: Power Window Sources??

I've seen a couple of jobs done w/the astro set-ups but you have to work through the 'issues' which is kind of like a project. The caddy motors or maybe late model f-body stuff might be smaller & work better but I still would have the 'project issues' factor.

I'm wanting something that has brand new regulators & power motors that simply requires removing the original manual regulators (cause they're already out) & bolting the pwr stuff directly back in place. No drilling, no fabbing... On this project, I want to move forward & will pay to do so in order to keep my focus elsewhere.

Re: Power Window Sources??

I am in the process of installing one piece windows in a 66. I am using specialty power kit and auto loc switches which uses the crank like the other kit. The power kit is great only one cut to the track and two hole behind the panel and that was it. The switches mount nicely and auto loc makes a kit to control the passenger side from the driver side crank. Its just a push button switch and like 5 relays. I didnt go that route yet but I am starting to think I might.
